The most important thing for you is to make sure you have a good thyroid doctor.  By that I mean one that will treat you clinically (for symptoms) by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 as needed to relieve symptoms, without being influenced by resultant TSH levels.  Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results, and especially not TSH results when taking thyroid med

In the future you should make sure they always test for both Free T4 and Free T3.  Free T3 is the thyroid hormone that is metabolized by all the cells of the body to produce the needed energy.  Also, since hypo patients are so frequently deficient in Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, you need to test for those and then supplement as needed to optimize.  d should be at least 50, B12 in the upper end of its range, and ferritin should be at least 70, and some sources say 100.

You can read about this in the following link.  I suggest reading the first two pages and more if you want to get into the discussion and scientific evidence supporting all the recommendations.  It will also help prep you for future discussion with doctors to make sure you are treated clinically, as discussed.

I am being tested for Hashimotos as we speak. I My t4,free on my first test was 0.6 with a TSH W/reflex to FT  28.70. I decided to retest to make sure and the TSH jumped to 93. I have started on 100mc of levothyroxine and have to go back in 2 weeks to see my numbers. I was fine last year this has all happened in the last 8 months. It's hard to tell my symptoms cause I am also going through menopause so there are a lot of similar symtoms. I have hot flashes insomnia, and actually was constipated for a few months out of the norm. What should I look for in the future with treatment.

The most common cause for a high TSH is primary hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.  Please post any other thyroid related tests results you have, along with their reference ranges shown on the lab report.  Also please tell us about any symptoms you have.  Have you been previously diagnosed with Hashi's?  If so, are you on thyroid med and what is the daily dosage?
