nuclear fallout on guam and biopsy

HI,
I would like to know if anyone on this forum lived on Guam or the surrounding pacific islands prior to 1974.

Guam was exposed to radiation fallout from nuclear tests in the pacific region of the marshall islands, johnson atoll, and other areas.
Agent orange was also extensively used on military bases.
Apparently there is a high incidence of diabetes, leukemia, and thyroid disorders/cancers on Guam.

I just got back my FNA biopsy and it said

Diagnosis: cystic nodule goiter. Blood with scants. Variably sized follicular clusters and histocytes.

Does anyone know what this means? My doctor said my test was
"indefinitive."

I lived on Guam January 1962 - summer of 1964 or 1965. I have had a Find needle biopsy w similar results.

My father was in the US Air Force. We left Guam when Dad was stationed in Nebraska. He retired from the USAF in 1995.

Today, I spoke with a dentist who mentioned people who, as children, lived in areas known to have been exposed to nuclear fallout have a high incidence of thyroid cancer.

I discovered your post and articles about Guam & mainland United States contaminated areas through doing a Google search on the topic. Nebraska is one of the areas contaminated from nuclear testing done in Nevada.

One article claims, "The six-year period from November 2 1952 to
July 16 1958 would be the peek years that the radioactive fallout came to Guam."

I'm interested in learning current information related to the fallout. Mom died from brain cancer and one of my brothers has a history of kidney cancer.

My FNA report had stated "microfollicular neoplasm" and the Dr said I needed to have it removed to determine if it was cancer or not.  I'm not sure what the protocal is for 'indefinitive' results. I had a partial thyroidectomy in Feb and the pathology report stated a 6mm papillary carcinoma was found. It was in the thyroid tissue and NOT in one of the 4 nodules.    My Dr hemed and hawed for a while but we decided to do the total thyroidectomy, which was done on May 10.  At my post op visit, I mentioned to my Dr. that I'd lived at a military base in New Mexico in the early 50's, when I was 2-5 years old.  My Dad was in the Air Force and was involved in many of the nuclear bomb tests, including the Marshall Islands.  He died of lymphoma 29 years ago, due to radiation exposure.  My Dr. said had she known that, she woudn't have even questioned doing the TT.  So, I guess I'd say, if you feel you may have been exposed to radiation you may want to monitor the goiter carefully for changes and discuss possible surgery with your Dr.
Other people on this board know more about protocols....this is just my experience.
Good luck on your thyroid journey....
