You are more than welcome. I am fired up for a "negative" diagnosis! Please let us know after surgery.
Thank you so much! And My Dr. did say that after they remove the right lobe, while I am still under, they will have frozen section disect my right lobe and determine whether to take the left lobe if cancerous also. He said very rarely do they stitch someone up only to turn around and have another surgery to remove the other lobe. Thank you so much, your information has been so helpful!
There is a great commentary on your condition at the Columbia University site which spells it out in plain english:

Cleaving your gland is absolutely necessary to determine if there is cancer or not. I would suggest you talk at length about the time for study of whether a total thyroidectomy will/would be required to see if he can assure you that you won't require multiple surgical operations to remove any part of the gland left. Some will do the research while you are under, others won't. Consider this carefully.
It is a confusing time, and many on this board have and are surviving multiple forms of thryoid cancer and disease so do not hesitate to reach out to them. I do not have cancer but rather advanced thyroid disease, but please do not hesitate to contact me through here or at the National Thyroid Foundation. Best to you in a negative diagnosis.
I'm not taking any medications. I was getting really bad sore throats, and then August 27th I got sore throat, which led to ear infections in both ears and my lymph nodes swelled really bad in my neck. Dr. send me for CT Scan, in which showed the node on my right lobe of my thyroid. they sent me for ultrasound, and based off that he did a needle biopsy in which showed that my results were consistant with follicular neoplasm and that I needed to have surgery to remove the right lobe in order to tell if it's cancer or not? So Nov. 15th I go in for surgery... just really confused about all this
The nodule/tumor is very small, and your surgery, called "Cleaving" is generally for those who are experiencing medicinally uncontrolled hyperthyroidism. This is a serious surgery and does not seem to be medically mandatory given the size of a single tumor you show. Mildly enlarged thyroid glands do not dictate cleaving. Are you experiencing extreme conditions even with medication like beta blockers and depressants?
You might want to take a look at this article, which addresses almost exactly your diagnosis in pictures and plain english:

Also, have you had a fine needle biopsy, or dramatic red blood cell change?
Best to your health
