thyroid cancer an menstrual cycle

Please help,

I just got my whole thyroid removed due to cancer ( they think it is papillary cancer, but I am still waiting on the pathologists results ) I have been on a really heavy period for 7 days before the surgery and my OB Gyn just told me to get my thyroid fixed and put me on a birthcontrolpill to stop the bleeding. the bleeding never stopped. it is just light, but have been on a light period for over 2 weeks now despite the birthcontrolpills.
my endocronologist thinks that that has nothing to do with my thyroid.
how is the thyroid related to the periods and what should I do? I am off my Levoxyl now also, because I am waiting for the iodine treatment.
thanks for any help

My periods were soooo messed up for years.   I even had fertility problems.  I also was on birthcontrol just so I would get monthly period.  Drs. had no idea why.   Since removal of the thyroid and RAI my periods are great!  I 'm not on any birthcontrol and they've actu\ally have gone from 7 days to 3 days.  I KNOW the thyroid had everything to do with it.  Why all of a sudden after 20 years did everything magically right itself?  good luck
