H1N1 and Autimmune

I asked my doctor about the vaccine because I have heard conflicting information. I once read that people with Thyroid issues can be more susceptible to things like flu.  My doctor said that is not true.  But I know I have read it.  However I have read that people with suppressed immune system, I know not quite what we are talking about --but maybe along those lines--SHOULD NOT get the vaccine.  Anyone familiar with this or know the answer?

I have had thyroid issues since 1994; I have only gotten the flu once about 12yrs ago.

I do not get the flu shot, nor will I. Just never have.

I have been told (2 drs & 1 infectious disease doctor) that people with thyriod issues are not any different in getting it than those without thyroid issues.

The key is to keep washing your hands....

Hi,
Thanks, I thought I was more prone to illness.  How can I raise my immune system naturally--if you don't mind sharing:)  I used to be a teacher, but that was 4 years ago, so I don't feel I have that tough immune system any more.

Your doctor is incorrect. You ARE more prone to illness when your thyroid is suppressed.

I am not a big believer in these new vaccines either. It's all scare and hype to me.

I am a firm believer on getting your system back in check naturally. Regardless of the thyroid condition.

You can raise your immune system and ward off these illnesses without getting shot up with the actual virus itself and the counterpart to fighting it.

I work in a school were germs fester .... before I raised my immune system - I was ill with everything all the time. NOW, being optimal in thyroid AND immune system. I have not gotten ill for almost two years!

It can be done... I don't believe in these vaccines.
