Thyroidectomy

I've have been diagnosed with Grave's disease for 9 years.  I'm currently on 5 pills daily of PTU.
I had the same Dr for 8 years, & his treatment option was always to do the
radioactive iodine when I was done breastfeeding.  We moved to a new state a year ago.
My new Dr/Drs are recommending surgery.  I have two big nodules.  One is 7cm, & the 4 cm.
My goiter is large.  It's noticable.  My biopsy came back normal.  They are recommending
surgery b/c they say that the RAI most likely won't shrink the nodules, & surgery afer
RAI is more involved.  ??  I REALLY don't want surgery.
I was under the assumption for SO long that RAI would work.
Any input??
Thanks.

I don't have issues swallowing.  Really only bothers me if I raise my hands, or if I have
a cold it can make the cough a little worse.
Have you had a thyroidectomy?
Thanks for your input.

If it was me, I would want the thyroid taken out with a nodule at 7cm. Are you having any issues with swallowing, etc?
