My pharmacy has tried several types of fillers, including acidophilus, but I had a reaction to that as well, and also to the vegetable capsule it was in. His last attempt was to make it into a liquid using almond oil, but it's been a pain to take since I have to use a syringe. It's messy and not convenient for my afternoon dose.
My biggest issues are the brain fog, the annoying pressure in my forehead and that general feeling of being out of it, like when you're on too much cold medicine.
I've been on Tirosent for about a month now and I feel 100% better than I did on the synthroid. I don't know if it's just in my head or what but I could swear I feel more energetic and awake. I haven't had any muscle cramps though. My only issue is that I think I may need to lower my dose a tad. Some days I feel a bit hyper. Other than that, I like it!
Just a note - any good compounding pharmacy should be able to offer several fillers, otherwise they are losing a lot of customers. Acedofolice (spelling is way off!) is a good alergic free filler. Call around if you still whant to say on compound. But, Tirosint would be easier to get and more cost effective.
Some people would need a lower dose of Tirosint than what they were on with synthroid or levo, because being a gelcap, Tirosint is completely dissolved and absorbed so much better. In my case, I increased my dosage when I switched, but I needed a hefty increase anyway. I don't recommend that most people do that.
If you are allergic to cellulose and lactose, you should be able to take the Tirosint; just start at the next lower dose from what you are on now, then retest after a few weeks to see where you're at. If you decide to try it, please let us know how it works for you.
The muscle cramps were from a member on another message board. She said after 10 days on Tirosint she got really bad muscle aches that stopped when she stopped the meds. I think it may have been too strong for her since I've read you actually need a lower dose than synthroid since there are no fillers to slow down absorption. I'm glad to hear you're doing well on it. I'm allergic to cellulose and also lactose intolerant so I've been having a hard time finding meds with no fillers. Even compounded meds are difficult because the capsules are veg. cellulose.
There are a couple of good threads regarding Tirosint. I've been on it since August and doing great with it. You're right, the only ingredients are levothyroxine sodium, gelatin, glycerin and water. There are no known side effects to the medication, which is about as hypoallergenic as it can get. Usually when people say they get reactions to thyroid med, it's actually a reaction to being hypo.
I've never heard of Tirosint causing muscle cramps; not sure where you read that. Cramps are often a sign of being hypo. I also get them when my potassium levels are too low.
Here's one thread:
