hyperthyroid levels with enlarged thyroid

I have been having an array of symptoms over the past year and have seen various speacialist trying to figure things out. I am always tired even after a night of sleep of course I have to take my medication at 7pm in order for me to be able to sleep at night or I wind up having a night of insomnia, I feel depressed, have night sweats, and feel my heart pounding in my head just from walking up the stairs to bed. My PCP ordered labs on me and my TSH showed according to him that I was showing hyperthyroid levels, he added on a T3 and T4 but said they were within normal ranges. I had an US of my thyroid and they said that it was enlarged and now my endo. Dr is wanting me to have an RAIU test done. I feel very frustrated because when I first went to the endo Dr it felt as though she was dismissing all my symptoms and only following the labs, and now that I have someone else looking at my tests she acts like she is concerned and ordering all these other tests. What is it that this RAIU test will show and how important is it in helping me with my diagnosis?

I would have the test.  At this point, your doc is listening and is more aggressive in approach.  I would not waste energy wondering why she is finally getting with it.  I would just keep moving forward.  That said, if you don't get a good vibe from your doc, maybe change provider.

I just had an ultrasound today.  I believe it is more of a visual test, a peek at how the thyroid looks.  The test you mentioned is more diagnostic.  It gives info on how the thyroid is functioning.

Do you have the actual results of your TSH, T3 and T4?  If so, please post with reference ranges (ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report).
