Sounds like you are hyperthyroid. Yes, it definitely is an adjustment. Make sure that you limit the amount of time that you are exposed to the heat, because it can take a toll on you. Keep hydrated and once you get the thyroid under control, you will notice a difference in your tolerance to heat.

Oh yes. Air conditioning will be your best friend. =) I love the sun and when I was hyperthyroid it depressed me not to be able to sit in the sun. In return I stayed indoors where it was much cooler. Best of luck to you!

Not really...

I am very sensitive to any type of temperature below 78....I run my space heater year round in my cubicle.

I live in Texas....yes the guys freeze me out in the office....I go outside to thaw out...I hate being cold.....I just do not function. My hands & feet are always cold....

However, I do get night sweats at night....so go figure...

I get that way sometimes now since my partial removal. I use my space heater in the summer time, lol. My hands and feet are always purple.

Yes....Yes....Yes......   Cannot tolerate heat.  Feel more fatigued, short of breath, dizzy, etc.  Spent family Memorial Day Picnic indoors.

I am with  you Totie, I cannot tolerate low temperatures, I love, love the heat because at least my hands and feet are warm. I do not like air conditioners because they make me sick:)

When I was hyper I couldn't breathe at all in the heat.  I had to make everything cold.  Then extreme cold bothered me too.  I think I have finally leveled off or maybe I am truly going a bit hypo because it was 92 and I was outside and fine (this is unheard of for me).  I've been more tired, but coming from the hyper feeling, tired is nice.  When I'm tired and the heart is down I can actually do things!  My heart rate is actually going too low.  I might have to stop the beta blocker completely.  I'm only taking 1/2 and it's still going low.  I guess it could be because I can't eat because of my mouth errrr.  I seen that you were hyper now though, and it made me HORRIBLY intolerant to the heat.

Well, intolerance to high air temps is not only a hyper symptom, but can be a hypo symptom as well , or just from making thyroid med adjustment in either direction. I never could stand hot, humid air, but can deal with it better now. Supposed to be 85-90 Friday, first time this year, not to excited.

As far as being unusually cold in the winter, numb fingers ect, that was always a problem for me on T4 only meds. After my levels normalized on Erfa (dessicated t4 / t3), this was the first year I could enjoy winter outside in a long time. I wasn't cold outside till it was below zero, and my fingers didnt go numb either.

Hi LazyMoose

I'm hypo.  I'm heat intolerance. I'm confused coz I know heat intolerance is symptom of hyper or med adjustment.   When you said it's also hypo symptom, that attracted me to know more.   Any further advise?  tks. :)

It is a common mis- belief that heat intollerance is only from Hyper, some like myself get it from hypo also, not as common. My Dr knows this also from others as well.

Before Hashi diagnosis 12 years ago, heat killed me. It got better with thyroid med, but still had it if I was low,but in 'free T' range - I was still a little hypo. At the same period, I could not  take the MN winter cold at all, now below zero is way easier.

Hi,

I noticed your comment about night sweats.  I get them every night, winter or summer, very hot or very cold days.  I am 61 and had a hysterectomy.  I used to think they were estrogen related (lack of) but are they common for thyroid?  I am on the hypo side, never hyper.

Hi I came accross this page as just been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism graves disease 5 days ago and i'm sweating like a pig.
Free t4 93.2
Free t3 27.9
TSH 0.01
Using 40mg Beta blockers every 8 hours
40mg of carbimazole a day.
I don't know much about hyperthyroidism but docters seem concerned and are booking me in to hospital as soon as they can. Apparantly t4 levels are highest they've seen so thats an achievement haha.
Any advice on heat issue or anyone who has had this a while and can give me info on what to expect for the future would be greatly appriciated.

FYI - If you post your question separately it is more likely to get answers, rather than posting as a comment here. I'm hypo, so I cant answer your questions myself.
