I have 4 other family members with hashimotos, They live in different states, have different life styles, Few members have graves disease, some with thyroid cancers, one with Lupas and a partridge in a pear tree.. So I would like to think yes, that  there is a hereditary factor there. All I can say is that this Hashimotos sure kicks your butt. It makes you feel like heck most of the time.

I copied and pasted this from an article online....

Does this disease run in families?
There is some evidence that Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis can have a hereditary link. If autoimmune diseases in general run in your family, you are at a higher risk of developing one yourself.

Hope it was of help.

Good luck
