High blood pressure on synthroid

i went back and looked at my vitals before meds and my BP averaged 112/80 ( three tests)
TSH 24 FT4 1.1 (0.8 - 1.7 range)
On synthroid for a month my BP was around 150/104 and as high as 163/94 at the ER when
I was feeling very hyper. Is this typical for BP to go way up?
The doc took me off synthroid 17 days ago and I'm feeling better, BP this morning 128/90
My tsh had gotten down to 9.9 and my FT4 at 1.6 (0.8 - 1.7 range) high
Strange thing, my worst symptoms on synthroid was massive chills and cold sweats (lots of sweat) and
Pronounced tremors
I know the half life of synthroid is a week so I hope to be good in a week more
I had no hypo symptoms before meds they just went off a blood test
What's going on here??

I've never been overmedicated for long enough to take anything but a beta blocker (propranolol/atenolol).  When I increase meds, I do so very slowly, so my levels never got a chance to get really out of control.  A few days off meds, and the worst of the symptoms were over; a week to ten days, and they were all gone.

Why don't you go in for labs now and make sure your levels are headed down?

What medicines do you recommend to reduce hyper symptoms such as tremor, tension, temperature intolerance, anxiety?
I've taken lorazepam with good results but it makes me feel a bit dopey and can be addicting, propranolol works only slightly. Anti depressants take weeks to start working so they don't seem an option

Half life of Synthroid is about a week, which means that half of the dose you took a week ago is still in your blood stream.  A quarter of the dose you took two weeks ago is still there.  It's not quite a straight line progression like that, but it's a good way to think of it.

You should start to feel a bit better along the way, but if your FT3 and FT4 levels had gotten very high, it can take a while before they get back into a comfortable range.  Say your FT4 had gotten up to 2.0 (0.8-1.7) for example.  We know you were already feeling hyper when your FT4 was 1.5 in the ER.  So, your level is going to have to drop to some point below 1.5 before you feel a lot better.

In 4-6 weeks, all the Synthroid should be out of your system, and your levels will be unmedicated (baseline) levels again.

If you don't think your hyper symptoms are improving, I'd be tempted to go in for more blood work to see where your levels are now.  The Synthroid is still there, but your levels should at least be headed down.  Even if you do feel better, I'd probably only wait until the four week mark after discontinuing and check them then.

I'm confused about 1/2 life of meds
Synthroid is about a week
So in one week I should feel a bit better and so forth?
Or is it more like not until the majority of the meds are gone (4-6 weeks)
Will I start to feel significantly better?
At what point will my FT4 go back to where it was before I took meds?
Still feeling pretty hyper and it's been nearly three weeks

In the ER, your FT4 was on the high side - 67% of range.  FT3 was only 39% of range.  However, if this was two weeks into four weeks on Synthroid, and we know your FT4 continued to go up to 89% (1.6 (0.8-1.7)), your FT3 probably went up considerably, too.

Of course, how long it will take for the hyper symptoms to go away depends to some extent on how high your FT3 and FT4 levels had gotten before you discontinued meds.

Have your symptoms improved at all?

It could be a pituitary issue causing your TSH to be high.

The only T3 free test was at the ER and it was 3.1 (2.0 - 4.8 range)
At that time my FT4 was 1.5 (.8-1.7 range)
This was 2 weeks on the synthroid .75 mcg
18 days off synthroid and still feeling jittery and insomnia
How many more days of this?

Hyperthyroidism is a cause of high blood pressure and high pulse pressure. Pulse pressure is the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressure readings and is normally around 40mmHg. Eg: 120/80 = 40.  Your pulse pressure for your reading of 163/94 = 69 mmHg.

Your FT4 was quite high once on meds.  How much Synthroid were you taking?  Did they test FT3?

You're right about the amount of time it will take Synthroid to get out of your system.

TSH is a pituitary hormone.  As such, it's a very indirect measure of thyroid status and can be affected by any number of variables in the thyroid/hypothalamus/pituitary feedback loop.  While your TSH was quite high at 24, your FT4 was 33% of range.  Though that's a little low of the 50% guideline, it's not terribly concerning.
