High ionized calcium, normal PTH, vitamin D deficiency, thyroid nodule

I have a vitamin D deficiency, fluctuating calcium (recent ionized calcium was high at 5.39) and my endo found a nodule in my thyroid. Should I have it biopsied?

I should also note that when I try taking vitamin D supplements I get really sick.

Get the TGab and TPOab antibody tests for Hashimoto's. Hashi patients commonly have low D and nodules. I had a similar situation. Slightly high PTH and calcium, I thought it was parathyroid disease, but it turns out Hashi and parathyroid disease symptoms are VERY similar. If you do have Hashi, then you may need some thryoid meds to bring your levels up to normal. Also, my thyroid hormone pills actually shrunk all four of my nodules, largest being 1 cm, to pencil points.

Too many docs dismiss thyroid disease based on a TSH score or on the FT4/FT3 scores. Don't be fooled. With Hashi, our thryoid levels swing up and down. You MUST get the antibodies tested.

I could not tolerate those high D pills for some reason. They made me sick. I started with 1,000 IU vitamin D pills and worked up to 4,000 daily and I alternate with lots of sunshine. The vitamin D I take now is liquid form drops for better absorbency. Current ranges for D are obsolete. Try to get it above 80.

BTW - A nodule biopsy is less painful than a dentist visit. Really. I drove myself. All benign.

1 cm. Endo left it up to me for the biopsy.

How big is the nodule?  It may be affecting your parathyroids...they control the calcium in your body, they are located in the thyroid.  If the nodule is big enough, I would have an FNA...pretty painless, may tell you a lot.
