Hyperthyroidism - ED Issues - Blood Test Results - Help!

Hi,

I am a 34 year old male in good health with a great diet, workout 4 days a week, and am overall a happy person.  However, I am prone to mood swings and irritability when I am stressed.

Exactly 4 weeks ago I noticed a dip in my erection quality.  They were not as frequent and when I am with my current love interest, and they would not be nearly as hard.  Prior to meeting this amazing woman in early December, 2011, I could get hard and masturbate up to 3 times a day easily.  I always got hard at the site of porn, (which honestly, I did look at when masturbating).  , I have also looked at more porn in the last 3 years as I've been overseas and traveled quite a bit.  In those 3 years, however, I've been with a number of women, and this only happened ONCE before, about a year ago.

I am about to make a big move overseas, so I am wondering if this is due to overall stress/anxiety.  I have NEVER had a problem like this before, so it is quite worrisome, and I wonder if it is just performance anxiety mixed with general "big move" anxiety

I decided to visit a urologist here in Australia and he suggested I get some blood tests done and here are the results:

-Prolactin - normal
-Cholesterol - good
-FSH - 2.4 U/L  (1.5 - 13.0)
-LH - 4.8 U/L  (2.0 - 10.0)
-Testosterone - 14.3  (11.5 - 32.0)
-TSH - 0.33 mU/L  (0.4 - 3.5) - ***ALARMING - I'm below the normal range and my doctor said I need a follow up test****

Here is a summary of my current status:

-Little to no morning wood (very weak morning erections, if any)
-Sudden difficulty getting aroused by sex or porn
-Sudden erection quality loss, less rigid/hard
-Difficulty maintaining an erection during sex
-Thin, watery ejaculation, that appears clear and  dribbles rather than shoots
-Weak urine stream, past history of enlarged prostate
-Low side of normal Testosterone range according to test
-***TSH is below normal - my urologist says I need to get a follow up and that this could indicate hyperthyroidism

Any thoughts or ideas?  Also, I am beginning to worry about my low TSH scores and if that means I have hyperthyroidism.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

P.S. The urologist I saw today with the results could not have been more of a detached jerk.  I could tell he just wanted me out of his office so he could tend to more sick patience, which, I can slightly understand, being a 35 year old in good shape.   He offered no advice or thoughts and just gave me a prescription for Levitra.  He says it should "all come back."

I haven't done enough research to know if stress is directly related to low FSH, LH and testoterone levels, but I do know that stress can play strange tricks on our body and certainly could contribute to ED symptoms, as could other physical or environmental conditions.

Have you been diagnosed with a thyroid condition? Do get the T3 and T4 tests, but make sure you specify FREE T3 and FREE T4, otherwise you get total T3 and total T4, which are pretty much useless and waste of $

Hi Barb,

Thanks for your reply.  I am going to get another test done in a month, and I will include the T3 and T4 as well.

Regarding my FSH, LH, Testosterone results, I was VERY surprised as I have always been a "horny" fellow and never had problems before.

If I am anxious or stressed, would that contribute to low scores?  ...Meaning, once I get back on my feet, could these scores raise?

Thanks!

I can't help you with the erection issues, but I have to wonder about your thyroid test.

Have you been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism? Do you have Graves Disease and are you on anti-thyroid medication?

Is TSH the only thing tested?  You need, also, to have Free T3 and Free T4 tests done, in order to know what's really going on.  Your TSH is at the bottom of the range, but not actually hyper......  TSH is, at best, an indicator of thyroid function.  Without the FT3 and FT4, we can't really say a lot.

I do notice that your FSH, LH and Testosterone are all quite low in their ranges...... these could have a bearing on sexual ability, since all hormones must work together for optimal function.

I'm sorry to hear about the "detached jerk" you saw today; unfortunately, all to many doctors end up earning that designation.  I'd strongly suggest that you find another doctor, asap......
