Does vitamins have an expiration "intake"?

I was trying to look for the right way to ask my question, but it still sounds confusing.

I have read in this forum and in other places that too much Vitamin D and A (suplements) can cause intoxication or overdose.

My question is very simple. If my levels are within normal range, but in the low side can I get intoxicated if I take per example vitamin D for the rest of my life?

Aren't vitamins suplements that buil little by little in your body so if you reach your limit you shouldn't take it anymore?
Well, they have also been abosorbed everyday, but anyway I do not want to get an overdose.

I am going to start taking D and B12. I am going to be tested for A, before taking it.
I asked this to my doctor, but he didn't aswer straight.

I am confused about the vitamin intake, too much information and all diferent. I even read and article about a research that says that a multivamin increased the risk of cancer in some people and they are not as popular as they used to be:

Cut and paste pliz.

i believe it takes a long time to build up in your system (vitaminD) so if you take 2000 -5000 ius a day it takes months to increase. it did for me, but ask your doctor first,!!!!!!

You need to keep taking the Vit D coz when you stop, the levels go down again.

LOL, I meant that, toxic dose.

Would it be then safe to take it even though my D is in range? (low range)

My doctor suggested a multivitamin, but I am not going there.

Thanks!

Hee hee, it's not so much intoxication you mean but toxic dose.

Provided you check the recommended daily doses of all your tablets and make doubly sure there are not more than that dose you should be ok.

The problem with the vitamins that unless you are TRULY deficient in them, and most people in Western society who eat well and healthy aren't deficient, then they are of no use to you. Many people are deficient in Vit D which is not a vitamin as such, but a hormone.

It is advisable to do as you are doing, and be checked to see if there is a true deficiency in the first place. Vit A especially can be lethal if taken too much of. ALWAYS stick to the recommended daily allowances, which can come from foods too.
