Many of us have actually had to find different doctors (more than once), in order to get the proper testing and treatment.

Good luck with it.

TSH is a pituitary hormone and is not a good indicator of thyroid function.  You do need the FREE T3 and FREE T4 tests.  You should also be tested for thyroid antibodies to see if you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.  It's possible to have this and still have a "normal" TSH.

In regards to the best medication -- that depends on the individual; some do better on the dessicated, some on synthroid or other brands of synthetics.  I, personally, got much better when I switched to Tirosint, which is a gelcap; hypoallergenic and more readily absorbed.

"TSH was normal you dont have hypothyroid"

- TSH is just a messenger hormone. Actual t3 and t4 are the real hormones, and they dont always correlate with TSH like docs assume.

These tests are called FREE T3 and FREE T4 not the same as just t3, t4 or index or uptake.

You have to find the right doc that will do these.

It not the same as with other natural remedies. Natural remedies such as for inflammation do the same as NSAID pain meds, so they work.

If you have low thyroid hormones, there is nothing that can replace the hormones but.........hormones, either synthetic or natural dessicated 'pig' hormone. Dessicated is no longer natural after its processed into medical grade. No more than aspirin is natural, even though to this day, it comes from white willow bark that is processed with chemicals. I do take dessicated, but not because it was once natural, just because it works better for me.

Now there are supplements that claim to support the thyroid, such as selenium. And there are other sups that support or give relief to the symptoms of hypothyroid, but will not correct thyroid levels. Iodine is good if you dont have Hashimoto, but just regular hypothyroid. In hashimoto the antibodies continuously damage the thyroid. So far modern medical science nor natural science has figured out how to stop antibodies in any autoimmune disease.

And 'regular' hypothyroid not from antibodies is really a separate disorder (but treated with the same meds) because the cause is not from antibodies. The thyroid is none of the most delicate gland in the body. Heavy metals from toxic exposure, flouride in water, mercury in fillings, body infections, gut candida, even gluten has been proven to have a negative effect on thyroid hormone levels in some people. I personally know someone that reversed hypothyroid from diet- this person did / does not have Hashimoto antibodies though, that is the difference, the cause was not from antibodies.

You know if the day comes that they figure out how to stop antibodies in all the autoimmune diseases, the big pharmas will lose millions of lifetime customers. Now why would they invent something that prepares their own grave site?
