Look at the new website I stumbled upon!!!!!!!

http://www.saltinstitute.org/37.html

Of particular interest is the article on current iodine levels in US, but Jenipeni, you are not going to believe what you will read!!!  Near the bottom of the page they talk about problems in Western Europe and Australia now too!!!  The 10 articles I read are fascinating and again simply unbelievable!!!!!!!!!

Let me know what you think!!!  I can't believe this website didn't come up sooner!!!  It's a salt institute website!!!

Take care to you both!

No need to censor yourself, especially when it's on a positive note. lmbo

My experience with many Orientals (primarily Japanese, Chinese and some Korean), has been that they tend to be high achievers. Those who've I spent genuine time with, never struck me as being mentally dull. I have a great deal of respect for them.

In essentially "living" with the Japanese for an entire summer, I walked away with a very positive experience. Too, they took care of me in more ways than one. I was indebted to them. Very good people.

Alaska: Ketchikan is my birth place (as well as my parents & grandparent. The other grandparent was Canadian born). To be honest, I was happy to move out of K-town. I lived in Haines whilst a toddler. I went back a few years ago (month of Jan.)...and absolutely was taken by it. While I think all of S.E. is beautiful, it was Haines that I felt I was standing before the throne of God (i.e. God's country). A feeling of awe.
I liked Juneau...at least, traveling out of town. Took pictures of the glacier, of course. lol

You are right, too much sun shine...is something I wouldn't like either. Too much sun/heat and too much rain/grey...isn't fun. I would like a happy medium. lol

Hey ya! ;-D

I have to say, I do look at things with a jaundiced eye. My thought is ingesting a "more natural" form of vitamins/nutrients is always better.

I'm a "stup" when it comes to thyroid (though, am interested) but don't some patients have to watch their iodine intake (not to get too much)? Thinking hyper/graves?

It'll be interesting to watch the Japanese, from what I understand, their diet is changing. Having said that, those with whom I worked with, noted that they were in excellent health and something they did daily (too): calisthenics. There were Japanese men, in their 70s, doing this. They were physically fit and mentally sharp. They could run circles around the American "young bucks." lol Working 16 long, hard hours.

Did you cruise Alaska? If so, you've seen "my neck of the woods" ;-) It's beautiful here, true but have to say...all the rain & grey cloud cover can really get me down sometimes. I'm hoping to move further North.

Hey you...

just read the two articles, and I have read the 2nd one listed before, but teh China one was new to me.  It is funny though, that no one disputes the teh Japanese women have such a low incidence of iodine deficient disorders, and they are getting more iodine than anyone else in the world in their daily diet.  I have read enough to know now that are organic and inoraganic iodide/iodine's, and that could have something to do with China's problems.  Maybe they are using more of synthetic form and therefore having problems.  I even happened to walk by Kelp and seaweed in my local health food store, and checked the back of the package, and it sayd "Iodine 2,114% of recommended RDA."  If it were so dangerous teh FDA would not have approved it.  Besides there are a large number of people in the world who eat that everyday and they are fine, in fact in better health than us.

Sorry, about husband leaving, I would be bummed too!!!  By the way, I adore Alaska.  Astounding in it's beauty!!!

Take care!

getting "too much", is very worrisome, especially when you are already a little out of whack!!!  It's why I am not O.D.'ing on kelp or supplementing myself from the local health food store.  I want to make sure i do it right, to get the right balance, and therefore be on the right track again.  But what number is too much?  As noted before,  that one little piece of Kelp had 2,114% of the RDA.  and the Japanese, with the most iodine rich diets, aren't keeling over with all of the problems we are.  And I had to laugh about your observation of elder Japanese, because I sensored myself, I was going to comment how when I was a kid growing up, the stereotype of all the Japanese kids being sooo smart.  They were smarter, and maybe now I know why!  ;0)

Now Alaska, let's see we drove up to Vancouver Canada, and then took a cruise ship over to Alaska, and then we spent some time in Juneau, went to see Mendenhall Glacier, Skagway, a dog sledding camp, a quaint small town of Haines, river rafted through an Eagle Preserve in that area, Ketchikan, and we rode go-karts through and the rain forest there.  But from all of the different forms of transporatation and all of the wildlife it was just amazing.  We spent about a week there.  I got to see my whales, and eagles, and even a bear.  It is just a fascinating place.  I hate the weather here in Southern California (born and raised), I fit in perfectly when I lived back East in New York City.  I just loved teh change of seasons, and miss it.  Too much sun, can be really boring!!!

take care!

I've been meaning to post (now I can see the thread) but have been mucking about...husband is leaving tomorrow for Georgia and I will not be seeing him for an entire month. I'm feeling abit blue'sy.

In reading and thinking, my best guess is that I have had lower than average iodine intake than the average person. I only eat out about twice a year and I don't eat much processed foods. On top of that, don't add much salt and what salt I have been adding...hasn't contained Iodine. I've gotta salt lick right next to my toothbrush now. Kidding. ;-D
