Thyroid Peroxidase antibody
I am ignorant to the antibody tests can someone tell me if this test is positive what it means and what additional tests I should have done if any?
I can tell you of my experience. Being positive for thyroid peroxidase meant that I had autoimmune thyroid disease. That means the thyroid tissue changes in some way so that your body no longer recognizes the tissue as its own, and your immune system begins to attack your thryoid-- usually making it dysfunctional at some point. My doctor told me that he would prescribe thyroid hormone to reduce inflammation of the thyroid and restore thyroid balance. As it turned out, I had more problems than this, but I hope I have given you some explanation of this disease.
