Has anyone ever had a cough with a thyroid nodule?

Hi Everyone~

I am fairly new here and very scared.  I have a 4cm nodule on my left side of my thyroid.  They atempted to do a FNA without an ultrasound and were unable too.  I am scheduled for an ultrasound guided FNA on Wed.. I have a cough that I thought was because of allergies.  Feels like a tickle in the back of my throat.  Could this be the nodule?  I am so afraid I have cancer and it has spread already.  I am 40 year old mother to 3.  Every little ache and pain now has me thinking the worse.

Thank you so much for any and all information you can give me.

I did, yeah. Had a persistent cough that wouldn't go away. One partial thyroidectomy later, that symptom went away.

My mom has a chronic cough and she has three nodules that she will be getting biopsied. Did you ever find out if your cough was related to the nodules

Large nodules could cause one to have a chronic cough if they were positioned in such a way as to make this possible.

You poor thing. I remember being where you are now. My dry itchy annoying cough drove me insane...all through the night..and the day. Our thyroids are right on top of our windpipes and it is such a narrow little area that any time a nodule or an enlarged thyroid presses ever so slightly there, our reaction is to cough to get rid of it. Most annoying!
You are right to feel scared...this is a terrifyingly weird thing happening to you. But as stella5349 says, it is uncommon to have thyroid cancer and honestly if you did, you would be in a lot worse shape than a simple cough.
A FNA without an Ultrasound is just silly. Every Body is different and the U.S. is the only way to see where your bits are! So when you have the FNA this Wednesday, with the U.S. there will be a greater chance of getting some results.
Many nodules are benign, meaning they are just a pain in the neck,(all puns intended!) and really are just one of those annoying mysteries of life. You are allowed to be scared, just don't let it overtake you. Even if it is the worst news..thyroid cancer is one of the easiest to treat and has the highest rate of cure. Hang in there and know you are with people who understand your situation.
Let us know how it all went!

Thyroid nodules can press on areas of the throat and give you a cough.

Don't panic - thyroid cancer is uncommon and you may be putting yourself through more stress than you have too.

Stress - believe it or not - can bring on nervousness and make you do things too. - like sleep worse and you my know snore.

That can cause a cough all day after a night like that.

That first FNA w/out US guided in my opinion was terrible (even if you CAN see it)

I think all FNA's need to be guided by US for core and size. Why put the patient through repeat procedure - when an US is a better eye for a DX or biopsy??
