OT: I have been diagnosed with Lyme Disease

Saw the endo yesterday, Thyroid tests all great.
My history of a bulls eye rash and neuro symptoms- mainly vertigo and dysequalibrium- are enough to get the diagnosis. My tests have been negative, but it turns out that that doesn't mean much, especially since I was infected 14 years ago in 1994. My first vertigo attack was 4 months after the rash.
The endo is sending me to my neuro, who is is good friend to concur. Hopefully he will. That is the first hurdle.
I may need a spinal tap.
The treatment will be IV antibiotics for 1 month.
I am allergic to penicillin and the drug of choice is Rocephin. It says to use this drug with caution in penicill allergic patients. Needless to say, I will discuss this at length with both doctors.
So, I am excited and cautious and very nervous.
The endo is writing a convincing letter to the insurance company and calling the neuro about me.
I love my endo!!! I thanked him for not kicking me to the curb once my thyroid was ok.
The endo said he helped his secretary 10 years ago get treatment in a situation similar to mine.

Thank you!

My neuro appt is Friday. I am nevous.
I saw him last year, but don't know if he is totally on board with the Lyme Dx. I will try to contact my endo tomorrow and see if he spoke to him about my case. (which is was going to do last week)

Thanks everyone!
estrelinha:
I think I did take a cephalosporin many years ago and had no reaction. They also sometimes use IV Doxycycline.

Cheryl:
My thyroid is now normal! TSH 0.93. I sleep better and am losing much less hair. I was hoping the other symptoms were thyroid, but I guess this is why doctors go off about how we can't blame everything on out thyroids. (Hate to say that.)

AR:
Thanks as always. Yeah, 14 years.... Mystery Diagnosis anyone? (There was a story a few weeks ago and the lady has symptoms very similar to mine. All her tests were negative, but some obscure test came up positive after a long time.)

I just really wish I had a positive lab test for this. Even though the CDC says that Lyme is a "clinical diagnosis".

I have been to the Lyme Forum and plateletgal has posted to my questions.

I hope this eliminates some of the symptoms that have been plaguing you, kitty. Best wishes for you.

Fourteen years to get a diagnosis.
Sooo many things to say about that...

You new that something was wrong with you, so it's a good start to be cured getting a diagnosis. About Rocephin , it's a cephalosporin and people allergic to penicilin can be allergic to this group of antibiotics. So you can have an idea if you already had one cephalosporin antibiotic in your life, any reaction?  Hope you keep us informed about you, be well
