lab results 9 days after TT

I had some labs done last week.  I am going to have more done tomorrow (friday) which will be about 2 weeks after surgery.  Then no more labs for 5 weeks.

This is what i got about 9 days after the TT - I really thought they would be worse - especially the TSH.  Looks like my thyroid won't be missed at all.

tsh 4.07     range .40 to 4.50
t4 free  0.8     0.8-1.8
t3 free  3.4   2.3-4.2
tpo 137   range <35    (this was 435 before surgery)

I am on the following protocol  week 6

morning 1 grain erfa thyroid
after noon .75 grain erfa

total dosage is 1.75  or 105 mcg

My anxiety is much better.  The ear ringing seems to be getting better or is not as bothersome.  Still hard to fall asleep at night.

My labs prior to surgery were almost identical but with a tsh of 5.0  and tpo of 435.

Dr. recommends increasing to two total grains but wants to see what happens with tomorrows labs.  I would be okay with the increase.  It also means i don't have to split the pills in half at 1 pm, i can take a full grain.

Can i have feedback please from y'all?

Go to Dr Stephen Parks site (just google his name) and you will be amazed at how much information about snoring there is. He is an expert that I highly recommend. There are many many different treatments he talks about and reasons why people snore that aren't always obvious and not always treated simply.
For example my snoring and sleep apnoea comes from having one nasal passage bent and narrow, which will need surgery to open it. Some people need a CPAP mask, (helped me for a bit but my head exploded, the air would back up inside the narrow nasal passage and explode back into my throat making it pretty darned scary in the middle of the night, hence how we found out he narrow schnoz)
He even has a guy talking about hypothyroid issues due to snoring! Lack of oxygen through the night makes the brain go skewiff and upsets the hormones and you end up hypo, fix the snoring, the hypo tends to go away (not always but generally) So give him a try! He has webinars regularly where you can ask questions too.

LOL

I do feel better since the surgery.   I don't feel harmonically better, however i can swallow without feeling the weird feeling in my throat.  I don't have the neck pain radiating to my ears any more.  My wife says i still snore and she still wants to bash my face when I'm sleeping so all is good on that front.

But i still feel the same hormone wise.   I did bump the meds, but very slow.  I still get the afternoon anxiety when the t3 hits and the t4 converts.

I cannot wait until i don't have to post on this site anymore.  I mean i love y'all and stuff but damn.  Its like a prison sentence.

Welcome to the club Bruce! LOL! They wanted me to go up to 150mcg when I first got my thyroid out, and I dutifully did that not knowing anything and KA-POW! went into spaz hypermode so severely I thought I would die. Now looking back, waiting till the hormones prior surgery (which like you were gone bye byes) were a bit more level on 100 mcg would have been a smarter move. Knowledge is only as good as the day you get it!

Living with it and accepting it are two different things. HOPEFULLY now your thyroid is out you will get better relief, but still early days yet.
Cheers from the vixen ;)

you red headed vixen!

my numbers were on the decline before the surgery.   2 weeks after with a tsh of 12 i did my increase as the dr. ordered but i didnt do it as drastic as they wanted me too.  Im still getting that weird shittyness 6 hours after i take the hormone, the buzzing etc.  Nothing has changed there.  Looks like this will be how i spend the rest of my eternity.

Bruce, stop panicking! I just looked at the pathology and it is just terminology they use to indicate the cells are clearly obviously what they are. You have Hashimoto's plain and simple. Nothing else.
The colours they talk about are simply pathology inks to differentiate between each sample from the same person. It means nothing. You will live another day!

As for the upping of the dose I still think it is WAY too early to be doing that. Personally I'd be waiting to let the old thyroid hormones get out of the system. Wait a few months THEN see what is going on.
The TSH lags UP TO FOUR WEEKS behind any other tests! So again the TSH you are looking at now is not indicative of what is happening to you today. DON"T up the dose just yet!
I shall reiterate, YOU ARE NOT F@#ed you have Hashimoto's Your antibodies will take a long time to drop and you will be ok!

Well i can't see why they would test for TSH twice on the same blood draw personally but interesting to see what each TSH lab result will be all the same.  I'm lucky to get a TSH and sometimes a free T4 thrown in. :)

OK um.   so is this good that they are checking this?   i won't do it now for a couple weeks since i was just told my tsh was 12 - i  need to get that **** down.   I know we look at FT3  however tsh 12, is tsh 12.   Obviously i need to get that back down a little bit before i home in.

The ultrasensitive TSH is also known as 3rd generation TSH.  Each TSH generation shows improved sensitivity on the lower end of the TSH range.  The 1st generation TSH sensitivity - down to 1 or 2 mU/L (could not detect between euthyroid levels and hyperthyroidism), the 2nd generation TSH - down to 0.1 or 0.2 mU/L, the 3rd generation/ultrasensitive TSH - down to 0.01 or 0.02 mU/L.

Lab Test Online states that most labs use 3rd generation/ultrasensitive TSH as their TSH test.  A "regular" TSH could be 2nd generation TSH but may be a double up of the 3rd generation/ultrasensitive TSH if the lab only uses this assay.

my hormone lady is running a huge panel on me this week.  One of the things on there is ultra sensitive TSH.  She also has regular TSH on there too.  whats the difference?

but doesn't this seem like a big jump?  shouldn't it be like 1.75 to 2.0  or even 2.25?

It takes my body 6-8 weeks to absorb the full dose once I have to change dosage.

After my TT it took a year to get me to the dosage I needed to be on. 200 MCG.. However, I was only put on T4 med.

the results came back from fridays 2 week visit after TT and they only did the TSH and it was 12.  They want me to bump from 1.75 grain to 2.50 grain.  The surgeon told me to make sure my hormone lady is okay with this.

Does this seem like a big jump?

im sending up to my pictures now.  The only thing the dr. told to me was that the word "marked" was used in my diagnosis which i guess means "you are fu$cked" in pathology terms.  check my photos

i did labs again today.  i also got my pathology report.  I don't have cancer but it said that the thing was pretty bad off.  It was bright yellow and it was attached to a lymph node.  under level it said "marked"  which i have no clue what that means.  The doctor said "marked" means it was bad, but then again she is a surgeon so what else would she say.

9 days after surgery is way too early to tell what is going to happen in your body after thyroidectomy. Don't forget the hormones you had 14 days ago will just be dissipating now. The doctors would test you about now to see if you are 'crashing'  most don't test till the 6 week mark.
However, if your thyroid was totally non-functioning prior to surgery then your results are only indicative of any dose you take regardless if you have a thyroid intact or not!
Hopefully you will get better and better and this might be the very thing your body needed to get well.
Cheers!

Gimel -   is there anything i can do to increase the free t4 or do i care?  I guess at this point its just waiting for the hormone to saturate my system and there is not much else to do, right?  She was talking about bumping from 1.75 to 2 full grains.  Not much of an increase but may bring it up a little more.
