Oprah clarification

She says she meant her thyroid levels are in the normal range. Docs took her off meds.

Dr. Oz says she had a bunch of problems. Sounds like thyroiditis. A thyroid stimulating issue and a thyroid attack.

I think she and Dr. Oz did a good job explaining what happened.

Message: You know when there is a problem, especially with the thyroid gland. (Dr. Oz said this)

He also says each person has a level unique to them. You need to insist, push and shove.

She is not cured- her levels are now ideal. She never just went off meds on her own.

So....sounds like the viewers got through to her!!

I did it!  I emailed the show!  Like you, I'm glad she did a follow-up.  I feel a lot better and I emailed to let her know I appreciate it.  

She's one of the only people on television getting info out there about the Thyroid.  We need this as Thyroid Patients.  Maybe it will get us better healthcare!  Lord knows we need it.

As hard as it was - I DID watch the show. I heard on a commercial that she would be addressing her "falling off the wagon show"  I was hesitant - but I watched.

At first she was going about it like last week and I got discouraged. I started doing laundry. My husband ran down the stairs and started saying she was talking about a certain letter she recieved from a thyroid patient about being very "disappointed" that I
( Oprah) was cured of thyroid disease.

Scott said it sounded alot like my letter. I don't know for sure - millions could have written the exact same thing - but I watched Dr. Oz and her discuss the thyroid segment.

I was impressed on many things. The fact that Dr. Oz used the anology of shoe sizes was speculator. "His statement of : "We know most American's wear anywhere between a size 4 to 12 size shoe, doesn't mean my shoe will fit on your (oprah's) foot and vise versa."  "The lab work needs to be looked at  --like fitting into YOUR personal shoe.

I cried................ litterally.

I sat glued like a tot watching a favorite cartoon.  I agree Kitty, they did mention keeping an eye on her levels. The most powerful thing for me was when Dr Oz corrected her and discussed HER antibody level and said those never go away. He also compassionately stated that using the word "cure" was inappropriate - but wanted to stress that even through there was no "cure" there IS a thing of "putting the thyroid "at peace" from the attacks.

Again I cried - for me  " Knowing I am as close to "at peace" as I can right now and for the other members here who want that so bad -  here at Med Help.

Did I write another letter. Yes I did and I pray she gets it.  This time I addressed my screenmane here ( Stella5349) saying I was a Co Leader on a International Thyroid forum at Med Help and " cyber begged " to have her get information from the site on me to uncover that I am NOT a scammer or a fraud.

I don't know if what I did will help at all - I hope so - but I am one of a billion - probably less noticable than other emailers - so I doubt my plea to help learn about how bad some things are for thyroid patients will even pay off.

All I can say is I really am trying here poeple to get us noticed and hope one day the inconsistant lab testings and doctors brushing this horrible stuff off on other non- root problems ends. I keep trying and hope I have the support I NEED here to continue this journey to get us well.

I appreciate Oprah taking the time to really go back from last week and clarify some issues. It wasn't the miracle I hoped for - but it helped.......... I hope.

So I know I asked before - but if anyone can go back and write again to the oprah (dot) com site , I would appreciate that alot especially as January is thyroid awareness month and this IS the time for us to unite as a community.

If it was thyroiditis, it can be temporary. First you go hyper, then hypo. After some months, your levels can revert to normal.

They did say that they will always need to keep an eye on her levels in case it comes back.

I feel it is an honest explanation of what her thyroid disorder was.

I heard on the radio that Oprah is now taking the weight loss med "Ali" and has supposedly lost over 30 lbs on it.  She is reportedly doing commercials for them and is soon to be doing ads in print as their "official spokesperson".  No admission of thyroid disorder.  

Who knows?  But if she is at "ideal" level, why take her completely off med?  Isn't that just going to make her go hypo again?  Or do I not understand this disorder as well as I thought I did?
