Thank you.
I have been wondering if there is some correlation between the 27 cysts/nodules on my fairly normal sized thyroid and other problems I have been having: Mature Ovarian Teratoma remove in June that had Multinucleated Giant Cells; platelets were 51 (range 150-450) and had occasional Giant Platelets and a few Large Platelets, and a BMB differential in May showed few Megakaryocytes and a few scattered Large Granular Forms.
My TSH, T4, T4 free, T3, T3 free are all low end of range. Thyroid antibodies are low.
The quote above is from one of 3 nodules, all with punctate calcifications that had FNAB. The Hurthle cells are in all 3 but no percentage is noted and lymphocytes are not mentioned - "scattered sheets of cells in which there is more abundant finely granulated cytoplasm. These cells have round to ovoid, smooth nuclei and are consistent with Hurthle cells." and all are reported as "consistent with hyperplastic nodule."
Endo said that they will "monitor (me) conservatively and re-ultrasound in 8 months."
Thank you for clarifying "paucicellular" for me.
"sick and tired of feeling sick and tired,"
Peggy
It is the description of histologic or cytologic appearance of sparse or uncrowded cell collection. The cells are usually inflammatory cells, but can be other types such as squamous cells.
It is basically an area of low cell density ans sparse cellularity
The presence of hurtle cells must be evaluated as elevated concentration of these can be sign of precancerous condition, although the reaaly small amounts of these can be found quite often
I have no idea Peggy - Just bumping you up so someone may answer. Wishing you well and hoping you get an answer! ~K
