Post thyroidectomy menstral insanity

Hey folks. This probably wasn't the best place to put this, but I'm not sure where I should ask.. I'm a 25 year old female who had a total thyroidectomy in January of this year. I've got post surgical hypoparathyroidsm, which has improved slightly. My blood tests are all "back to normal". Whatever that means.

Ever since my surgery, I have had a 5 week cycle. For two weeks, I'm normal. I go into ovulation and I nearly jump everyone with a penis for about 4 days. The remaining two weeks are spent in perpetual, all encompassing, fury of doom. It's like PMS on steroids. It needs to end. I snap at work, I've harmed friendships. It's like being insane.

I need help.

CHECK THIS OUT--after my thyroidectomy my cycle and my mood went haywire but I have found BIO-ID PROGESTERONE totally brought me back to my happy place!!!! I use the trans dermal cream-5mg.on daily basis until day 14 and then I crank it up to 40mg until I start my period and resume my schedule when the bleeding stops. This really works for me. I tried the synthetic form and immediately felt horrible again. Please research this to learn more but I feel it is a safe magic bullet for me...saved my life!!!!!!!

Your situation is very similiar to mine. I had a TT dec 09 and boy do I regret it. The only reason I had the surgery is because I was told that there is no way to detect cancer until the thyroid was removed and tested. My doc's said: you will be fine once you take the pill...yeah right! Far from it...Jus like you, my cycle has gone haywire. I missed a cycle in Dec of 2010 and it started back the next month on the day that it should've as if I never missed one. Did I mention that it became very heavy after my TT...., I started taking a medication that slows it up when it gets too heavy. Well, in Dec of 2011, my cycle lasted for 18days!!!! It just resumed yesterday, after three months of not having one. I am 44yrs old and always had a normal 5-7 day cycle, also with cramps and back pain a week before. My doc ran bloodwork (which I just received a call to come in), to test my estrogen levels and other levels. I am certain that they are off. It's not easy living without a thyroid in all areas...I have lots of health issues post TT, started about a year after surgery and never ending. I also had a multinodular goiter. Hang in There.......although it's tough.

OMG!Did it ever get better for you? I had my TT July 13th and can not stop bleeding!!! I'm OVER it!! I cry wishing I never went through with this surgery....but like you, I had to get it out due to "inconclusive results" I have an IUD in that prior to TT, made my period obsolete, and now I'm on my second cycle this month (with only a 5 day break of no bleeding in 30 days)

I am 9 days post op of a tt and while i've always had some form of PMS, Im experiencing some different forms than normal. Usually I get cramps, back pain, headaches, but the last 3 days I had nausea, fatigue, jittery feeling like i'm high off caffine, and hot flashes . I know this post is four years old but i'm glad to see that i'm not crazy. My cycle is 8 days early which never happens and right now i'm on 125mcg Synthroid and about 3000 mg of calcium a day even though my labs said that my calcium levels were normal that could be because of the supplements. I'm not going to stop taking them until i'm told to. I guess at this point I feel that there is a lot more that I wasn't told about the repercussions of having this surgery. I was diagnosed as having Grave's Disease even though I had more hypo symptoms than hyper and I also had a multinodular goiter.

Oh, It's totally related. I'd bet you money. I was never queen of hormone stability, but I felt the change almost immediately. It helps that I also get a particular brand of hormone headache. I'm at 175mg of synthroid, 800 of magnesium, and about 1800 of Calcium+ Vitamin D.

The mineral doses have all been cut nearly in half. Thank God.

You could try about 5 flaxseed oil gel caps a day. It took the edge off, but I'm still miserable. It does actually reduce the over all pain.

I do the EXACT same thing.  I have never had PMS until my TT in August of 07.  I could just rip peoples heads off up to almost a week before I actually start.  I am NOT a mean person and I have never been one to even stand up for myself but now its like I am not even the same person.
My poor hubby brings it to my attention and tells me, I know what time it is...LOL.and my periods are ALOT worse than they were before.
I just thought it was because i was getting older never thought it could all be related.

I am on synthroid 200mcg  what meds are you on ?
