Question nearly 1 year post-op

So here I am 11.5 months post surgery to remove the left side of my thyroid and a portion of the right side.  Anyway, I'm just wondering what other people's scars felt like at this stage.  My scar is still quite sensitive to the touch (it doesn't hurt to touch, rather, it tingles).  I can not stand round neck tops, wearing a scarf or necklace that sits anywhere near the scar.  Even when I rub cream into it, it tingles horribly.

I asked the surgeon who did my surgery (an idiot of an endo!!!) at the post-op appointment (1 month post op) how long it would last and he said it should ease within a year.

Is it normal for the scar to still be so sensitive and tingle when touched almost 1 year after surgery????

Thanks!!

Thanks...I was just curious because I have this other scar from stomach surgery I had only 6 weeks before my thyroid and it's been fine for ages.  It is right where my jeans sit so it has clothes sitting right over it the majority of the time and it doesnt feel any different.  I havent really had this feeling with any of my other scars (all of which are on my stomach)...maybe it's just nerves and whatever are more sensitive in my neck.

It takes a long time for the nerve endings to re-wire themselves. Think of the phantom pains amputees have. The brain gets a message thinking there is nerve endings being touched but they aren't there! When the nerves in the thyroid surgery (or most surgeries for that matter!) are cut, and then healed up, the brain still senses where they were and it takes ages for the new ones to re-route the new message. So it gets supersensitive.
I have scars from having skin cancers taken off, from over 20 years ago and I STILL hate having any thing touching them One is on my lower calf and certain types of socks just make me go nutso!  So some of the nerves may have never re-learned their correct path message and over react.

Oh yeah, one thing I forgot to mention (was very tired and brain fogged when I posted last night), I have been massaging cream (mainly Vit E and a good quality skin moisturising cream) daily since about 1 month post op, so it's not like my scar isnt used to being touched.  I rub/massage it regularly.
