Thanks for bringing up this is very intersting point; I prefer that only the 'friends' could see the the " family" pictures; but i guess it mainly the opinion of the person who posts it. I probably would be against graphic or suggestive pictures; the "medical' images of the patient must provide only info necessary for diagnostic purposes.
I would never post personal pictures on the web, but that's just me.
One reason is the fact that people "steal" pics all the time and alter them to make all sorts of humorous graphics.
Innocent pictures of your children may end up on a soft porn site.
AND...I am paranoid and prefer to protect my anonimoty. Is that how you spell that?
The only personal information I share is my wife's first name and the general area of the state I live in.
Everyone has their own opinion about this and I respect that... hence the poll.
I guess I'm just naive and trusting. ..just like to see people I'm talking to.
Thanks for your input.
Take good care of yourselves.
"One reason is the fact that people "steal" pics all the time and alter them to make all sorts of humorous graphics" (AR-10) or even make stupid comments...
I posted a pic tirst day i was on this site. I have no shame. And I agree, i do like a face in connnection with people i meet. But on the other hand i can respect people who dont want to post them as well. Were all different.
I believe it could be a good idea that our forum site would have additional option for "community member only" to see the picture in addition to 'me only', 'friend only' and 'public'.
For these who want to store their photos, Flickr.com is available [I using it to host the pictures related to the car repairs and they are public].
I wouldn't care if people saw me or not. I just have no clue how to put a picture on here and the explanation of how to do it would have me heaing "blah blah blah." Anything that has the word "upload" "download"....anything like that.....my brain says "I can't hear you!"
I changed my profile pic to a head shot of me. What can people do to it? Whatever anyway... If they need to come to a thyroid forum to steal a pic of my face, so be it. Maybe they can make me better looking....? lol
Hi All,
Welcome sign for me. I know .. I know .. boring.
For awhile I had pics of my thyroid scar up .. but those are down now, too .. LOL
C~
I have pics in my profile that anyone can see, I don't usually put any up on any site as AR-10 says people can and do steal them. I do a lot of photography and don't want my really best shots ending up as someone's screen saver without paying for the privilege!
I like my cat pic in the little box as it really sums up my life right now!
I really don't mind if people put up a pic of themselves or not. I am usually interested in what they are saying not what they look like.
I have no problem with others using a portrait for an avatar or downloading pics to your profile page.
The fact is, though, that anything you post can be found on Google. Words, pictures, it doesn't matter. The pictures I have hosted on photobucket are out there, and if you Googled long enough you would find them randomly. There wouldn't be any meaning or association to speak of, but they are accessable.
Another fact is people steal them all the time. I call it snarfing, but where did my avatar come from? I googled thyroid pictures and found a piece of artwork. I snarfed it from the artist's site, cropped it, shrunk it, and walla! My high school graduation picture.
:o)
I have another avatar that you might find interesting on another site. I got it the same way.
I realize the chances of someone's picture getting stolen from this site or even from Googling is miniscule. It's not worth worrying about. It's not likely you'll end up on a website with a mustache waving a Chinese flag or with your head stuck on someone else's body.
It's just that I have buck teeth... :-/
LOL!
I do know that there was an (attractive) young woman who posted her picture on here a while ago and someone who saw it started turning this into a dating site. :-(
No thanks, if I bump into you in the grocery store you'll recognize me by how much I resemble "Grumpy" (which I stole). :-)
Hey thats actually a great idea. A thyroid disorder dating site. How much publicity would that cause.lol.
Did you guys know there is a new MedHelp Social site
http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/299
Social as in "non-med related" LOL ...
I can be seen there often ...hee hee

I love this discussion; can we move it to Social site.
This discussion is an excellent topic for "technology, ethic, and society" class!!
Not a picture person at all. I am rarely in any picture due to the eyes never going back to normal after hyper/graves disease.
Hey guys...thanks for all the responses.
This is the first time I have ever done a poll............I feel like a 'huge success' ....glad to find people who actually listen to my ramblings.
Good night to all, will post tomorrow after my pre-op.
