Speech Therapy and Thyroid
Well family, this is what happened when I went to the speech therapist regarding my hoarseness following RAI treatment. According to the therapists, the felt some swelling in the throat area.
1) They look down my throat while I talked.
2) They wanted me to sing and hold a note but I think they regretted that one. I cant carry a tune in a bucket.
3) They gave me breathing exercises to do there and at home
3) Plan to give me electrical stimulation which is called (Vital Stim Therapy)
4) They listen while I swallowed various types of food to see where it got stuck.
5)They plan to put a camera down my throat to watch whats going on when I swallow.
They haven't written the full plan as os yet, however they said that I will be singing opera by the time I leave. I don't care what I sing, as long as its in my own normal voice.

a) blood work, blood work, blood work and so on and so on
3) ENT

Its always great hearing from my folks.
Today I had my first installment of VitalStim Therapy. They hook you up to two leads like when you are doing an EKG. They then hook the leads to a stimulator They then turn the stimulation as high as you can bear the electrical stimulant. For one hour they did the stimulation and within that hour I had to read stories and do different notes.
Not sure of how many of you saw the movie Sister Act, but I felt like those kids trying to learn how to sing..... llllaaaaaaaaalllllalalalala..la LA lalalalalal..... I even had to count to 20 in a deeeeeep voice.
This Vital Stim is suppose to help with the hoarseness and the swallowing.

Hugs Terri - you'll get through this and maybe you'll learn to carry that tune in a bucket after all! Hoping for the best! ;)
I am glad they are listening .. sorry about all the cameras, though ..........they will find an answer and sounds like nerve stimulation of some sort at play here.
