Sugar cravings, muscle faintness, falling asleep, how can I snap myself out of this?

I'm feeling like I am really suffering at the moment with thyroid related symptoms even though my recent blood test has come back fine so I am sure I am on the right levels of medication.

Every day at about 5.00 ish I feel awful, I usually have to nod off for 10 minutes because I can't control the tiredness. I either feel so tired I have to sit down and then I fall asleep or I get what I can only describe as muscle faintness. It's like the muscles in my arms and legs feel faint. (I can get the odd muscle feeling on and off anytime of day.)

Today I felt tired and like I needed sugar desparately a couple of times during the day and have found myself scoffing cake, thinking I should have a banana, eating sweets and finally just helping myself to the golden syrup. I will also eat sugar straight from the packet when things get bad.

I don't know how to stop myself feeling like this or how to stop the symptoms! Eating sugar and golden syrup neat cannot be the answer and I don't want to rot my teeth!

Background - I have hypothyroidism and am on 125mcg of levothyroxin. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago at about age 31. I live in the UK and do not get to see my bloodtest results but have been told that everything is fine.

Any suggestions welcomed!

We hear many negative comments about how hypothyroid patients are treated in the UK, due to the practices of the NHS; however, I've never heard before of a doctor that would not even reveal the results of your own lab tests.  That is stupid and unacceptable.  We have lots of info to provide you that will help getting the testing (and results ) and treatment you need.  Let's start with this quote from a fellow UK member.

"What I have learned from my experience is that you have to go to the Dr's office and TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT and to go backed up with knowledge.  You have to tell them that you have done your reading and looked into your condition and care about the long-term treatment of your health and thyroid.  If you fight for what you want, you will eventually find someone that is happy to go along with your wishes.  But we all have to take charge of our own health, right?"

So I think you have the right to go to different doctors, correct?  If interested, I have collected the names of several doctors in the London area that have been recommended by other members, who were able to get these doctors to do the testing and treatment they needed.

I had intense sugar cravings and ate around a 1kg (2.2 pounds) of chocolate/sugary foods per day for many years. Today i ate two bowls of chocolate icecream and a few squares of chocolate. Impressive for me. :)

There are many reasons for sugar cravings and i'm not sure of all my causes but the ones i do know: vitamin B12 malabsorption, magnesium deficiency, hypothyroidism (still not optimal treatment), insulin resistance (about to start cinnamon and green coffee bean extract to help with this).
