Surgery or nuclear disposal?

My Dr says I have a toxic goiter. Have had parathroid surgery to remove a benign tumor and gland 4 years ago. Since age 15(now 48) thyroid is enlarged, labs show hyper, but I present with hypo symptoms. How common is this? Also, Dr. recommends radiation to destroy thyroid as opposed to surgery. I have also had 7 spine surgeries.Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. At this point I feel desperate. I'm feeling so darn sluggish can't get out of my own way let alone train dogs. At least I have that to motivate. I feel like I just want this dang thing out, now.lol Trying to keep a positive outlook and am grateful for this forum. Again thanks.

Personally, I'd get another opinion on this one.

Having two surgeries in that area is not really a good idea, due to the risks, so maybe that's his line of thinking.  Plus, I'd think you having been subjected to so many other previous surgeries would be a factor too.  On the other hand, if a second surgery saves you from something worse developing down the road then it would be worth the risk.  But then again, maybe radiation could have the same benefit.

Again, I'd  go for a second opinion.  Good luck.
