Most of us with little to no thyroids left feel much better with an additional T3 medicine. I kept upping my synthroid and would feel better for a little bit, but then I would have hypo symptoms again. Adding Cytomel and reducing synthroid has made a huge difference in my energy level. Definitely get your Free T3 & Free T4 tested.
If you leave it up to the doctor and lab people, you likely will not get tested for Free T3 and Free T4. You are going to have to insist on it and don't take no for an answer. If you want references about the futility of using TSH to diagnose and treat a hypo patient, I'll be glad to give you links that you can copy and give the doctor. You are going to have to go in knowing what you need and want, and not accept anything less. It is too important to how you feel and your general health, to do otherwise.
Thanks I will see if they can run those labs next week when they run the TSH.
I fear my endo won't make any changes until I see her on Feb 23 due to the fact that she just switched my dosage & name brand two weeks ago.
However, I will put in a call to her.
You can get your doctor to switch part of your meds to Armour Thyroid, or Nature-Throid, or reduce your T4 med and add in some T3. I say this because Free T3 is the thyroid hormone that largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions. Although Vitamin D, and B12 also have an effect on energy levels, Free T3 has the most effect. The function of T4 is predominantly as a source for conversion to T3. As I recall, your old Free T3 was low in the range, although you haven't had a recent Free T3 test. So I heartily suggest that you get tested for Free T3 and Free T4, before making any further change in your meds.
