They dont usually give a T4 med to shrink the goiter as this just makes you more hyper and more prone to thyroid storm.
No Doctor in his right mind should be prescribing a T4 med if you are hyperthyroid.
I would go as far as to say that you was HYPOT at 12 and not HyperT...maybe you have it confused.
Are you taking your med early in the morning with a glass of water and no food for an hour after?
Also vitamins are not wise for at least 4 hours after your meds.

I think maybe you arent absorbing the T4 med properly ......maybe there is a reason behind it.

I also wouldnt be having a permanant treatment unless I either had an Autoimmune Disorder (hashi's or Graves) or Thyca (Thyroid Cancer).

Once it is gone...theres no going back and having it removed is not going to change the fact that you will be hypo still.
It takes a lot of hard work and an enormous amount of patience to get levels right...some people take years to get their levels right...some never do.
Thyroidectomy is not always the answer, unless it is absolutely neccesary.

I had RAI in June 2008 and Thyroidectomy (endoscopy under the armpit ) in September 2008.

Why was you on synthroid if you was Hyper?

You shouldve been on anti-thyroid meds.

There are quite a few here who have had a thyroidectomy done...I am sure they will answer your post.
Have you had your antibodies checked at any stage?
If not..I suggest you do so now.
