I was just going over my blood test files and found they actually did test me for TSH last year, but last years results were way different to this year.
Is this possible?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Date: 06/07/2011 <-- LAST YEAR
Thyroid Function Test
TSH : 1.60 mIU/L | Range: (0.30 - 5.50)
Comment: Euthyroid
--------------------------------------------
Date: 17/07/2012 <-- THIS YEAR
Thyroid Function Test
TSH : 6.33 mIU/L | Range: (0.40 - 3.80)
FT4 : 14.4 pmol/L | Range: (9.0 - 24.0)

I have attached a copy as an image.
TSH is very volatile. It can vary as much as 70% just depending on the time of day the blood was drawn. So, those kind of changes in a year are not at all unusual.
You have Hashi's. It's a degenerative disease, whith more and more thyroid function being lost continuously, so that kind of change in a year is not surprising and consistent with the Hashi's diagnosis.
TSH has long been taught as the "gold standard" in thyroid testing. One of our members calls it "the immaculate TSH" belief. FT3 and FT4 are much more important. The attention paid to TSH is in large measure the reason thyroid care is so pathetic. Concentrate on your symptoms, FT3 (correlates best with symptoms), FT4 and (if it accurately reflects your FT3 and FT4 levels) TSH, IN THAT ORDER.
Labs make mistakes, but I don't see any contradiction in your lab work that needs to be explained away...you can always have a second go-round just to be sure. Try to get into the lab at the same time of day each time.
