Throat / Neck Discomfort

Hello

I have recently been experiencing some swelling and discomfort in my neck / throat.

Before this, I have been experiencing frequent anxiety, and infrequent (2 over the last 6 months) panic attacks.

Often, I find that my hands are shaking slightly. Sometimes I feel like I can't sleep, and walk until 2-3am. Othertimes, I am so tired that I can hardly make it through the day.

Would a CBC (Complete Blood Count) test detect any Thyroid abnormalities? I recently had one and Thyroid was not mentioned.

How can I rule out Thyroid issues?

What tests should I have done? And what's involved?

How long does it take to get results?

Thanks.

Update:
I got a Thyroid profile and everything checks out.

Doing an endoscopy tomorrow to checkout what's going on inside my throat.

Also, I am currently in India.

Is this something that requires immediate testing (have it done here) or can it wait until I return to states in a few months?

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

When swallowing, is the thyroid attached to the adam's apple (moves with the adam's apple) or does it remain stationary?

Thanks.

Mine was all day - especially at high stress times.

Results should only take 1 day. Monday I had tests done and I knew the results of all the tests this morning at 7:30am

How long do the results take?

What time of the day do thyroid issues typically occur? I'm primarily referring to the neck / throat tenderness.

The word Free T3 and Free T4 must be added on those tests to dectect any abnormalities.

Yes, as acker said..indicators of possible thyroid condition.it is something you can rule out, but what you have are common symptoms of a thyroid issue, i would have the blood tests on this..

yes - indicators of possible thyroid condition... but you need to get thyroid functions tests - dawnangela has listed above.
and if it shows thyroid problems, start looking for a good endocrinologist...
maybe begin to resolve any anger/ grief issues you have
good luck

I have had urinalysis and CBC conducted.

My doctor has not indicated any thyroid findings to me, but I am trying to find out why I am experiencing these symptoms:
-Neck / throat discomfort
-"Moving" sore throat for over 2 months (off & on, but for the majority of 2 months - different areas of my throat are affected at different times)
-Fatigue some days and extreme alertness others (to the point that i am up pacing until 3, 4, even 5am)
-Anxiety (wondering what these symptoms are is becoming a habit)
-Shaky hands at times, feeling as though my arms or entire body are shaking slightly
-Abdominal discomfort (at sternum, ocassionally on both flanks and back)

I believe that part of my problem is reflux and/or a hiatal hernia. I can attribute the sore throat and sternum discomfort to this... as it is commonly exacerbated by lying down immediately after eating a meal.

Doctors have ruled out kidney and heart problems

Hi,

I am going through thyroid issues (large nodules detected on both sides, after having physical exam, CAT scan, and ultrasound), and have been experiencing fatigue.  In the beginning, I also had blood tests (CBC and thyroid levels), which all came back normal.

Did your doctor feel anything going on with your thyroid?  If you have nodules that are large enough, they may be felt by physical exam.  If there are small nodules, you may need an ultrasound to detect them.

I have had to be patient for all of my tests, as my insurance requires referrals for everything, so I'm going on 2 months since my doctor felt something unusual about my thyroid.  I am still waiting on test results from a biopsy.

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
