Thyroid Doctor in Madison, WI

Hi all!

I'm new to this forum and looking for recommendations for a good thyroid doctor in or near Madison, WI.

I am 30 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism three years ago. For a long time I was on levothyroxine or synthroid and needed the dosage upped every so often. Currently I am taking 100mg of Synthroid. Last summer I finally was able to convince my PCP to prescribe Armour Thyroid instead. This was due to still having constant "brain-fog" and cystic back acne from the synthroid (both my PCP and a dermatologist insisted the synthroid was not giving me acne, but within weeks of going off it and on to Armour the acne went completely away). I loved the Armour because my brain-fog went entirely away as did my back acne, however within a few months I started to feel incredibly fatigued and was exhausted constantly. I wasn't able to fall asleep at night and would lay away for hours. I gained over 20 pounds in just several months, despite my usual daily jogs & eating very healthy. Every time I had my TSH levels checked (my PCP would absolutely not run my T3, T4, and antibodies) my TSH was all over the place (one months it would be 2.3, the next it would be .4, the last time it was checked it was a 10.7). Since I've been feeling so miserable my PCP recommended that I go off Armour and back to Synthroid because at least my TSH levels stayed more consistent on that. I sent her information about Armour and T3, but it was no use. I'm have been back on the Synthroid now for about 4 weeks. My brain-fog is back and so is my back acne :(

I would really like to see a thyroid specialist instead of my PCP. She seems so focused on the TSH rather than the bigger picture, and this would be fine if I didn't feel so incredibly lousy still.

Does anyone have an recommendations for thyroid specialists in Madison, WI? I'd honestly be willing to drive hours away if there was a good one not especially close to me.

Thanks so much!

Deborah Wubben at Meriter. She goes by how you feel and is open to prescribing T3 as well as armour :-)

I'd love to have that name for the doc at Dean if you find out what it is. It's not in my HMO, but I'd be willing to try to change to have a good thyroid doctor!!

I live in just north of Madison.

My wife has been unable to find a good thyroid dr. In the Madison area. Her last endo who we had good luck with who added T3 along with T4 and made progress with retired. Replacement endo is TSH freak. Took my wife off T3 and she is feeling like crap!

If you do find a good Dr in Madison area please private message me!!!!  Even one that will prescribe Armour as maybe my wife would do well on that.

I actually have a name for dean care. But that is outside my HMO. As a result we may change our HMO in order to try this Dr.  I don't have the name at the moment as I'm on my phone away from my desk.
