Hi, I'm a 33yr female who recently had a thyroid ultrasound because my obgyn discovered a nodule on thyroid. She referred me to an endo but assures me that most thyroid nodules are benign and I should not worry.
These are the results:
They found 3 nodules.
Right lobe is diffusely heterogeneous in echotextures and measures 6.4x2.4x2.5 cm
Nodule A: complex solid and cystic nodule in the superior aspect measuring 31x20x20mm. color doppler demonstrates increased vascularity
Nodule B: Hypoechoic solid nodule in the inferior aspect measuring 24x17x19mm. Color Doppler demonstrates significantly increased vascularity.
Left lobe is normal in echotexture and measures 4.7x1.4x1.2cm
Impression:
Isthmus : 2mm
Focal nodule: complex nodule in the inferior right isthmus measuring 9x8x6mm .color Doppler demonstrates increased vascularity.
Impression: two right sided masses measuring largest 31mm , there is a small complex nodule in the right isthmus measuring up to 9mm
Fine needle aspiration should be considered , especially of the largest mass.
She had also ordered a TSH but said it was normal at .478 normal range being .270-4.200.
Should I be worried? What kind of questions should I have?
Right lobe is diffusely heterogeneous in echotextures and measures 6.4x2.4x2.5 cm
---Volume is 18.7 cu cm (ml) average is 3.5 cu cm/ maximum is 9 cu cm
Nodule A: complex solid and cystic nodule in the superior aspect measuring 31x20x20mm. color doppler demonstrates increased vascularity
--This nodule needs biopsy under live ultrasound obsevatiuon
Nodule B: Hypoechoic solid nodule in the inferior aspect measuring 24x17x19mm. Color Doppler demonstrates significantly increased vascularity.
-- same as above
Left lobe is normal in echotexture and measures 4.7x1.4x1.2cm
Impression:
--no problems here and about normal size 3.8 cu cm
Isthmus : 2mm
Focal nodule: complex nodule in the inferior right isthmus measuring 9x8x6mm .color Doppler demonstrates increased vascularity.
--this is close to 1 cm may be difficult to get biopsy
Question to ask:
CONDITION of lymph nodes!!!!!!
If you are not taking Metformin, the TSH is low normal which suggests:
Autoimmune process (inflammation);
Hot nodule(s)
The technetium scan test can tell if nodules are hot but biopsy is the first priority with abnormal lymph nodes.
If nodules will be found to be benign, the PEI ablation can be attempted to shrink complex masses.
The suppressed TSH is actually helps to control grow rate of the nodules!
