Thyroid Tumor

I recently had a right thyroid lobectomy. The tumor was biopsied. The doctor told me they found a 2millimeter carcinoma and that I would have to have a scan periodically and that was it. Does the carcinoma mean I have thyroid cancer? Should I follow up with an endocrinologist. I don't really know what this diagnosis means.

Thank You so much!  I sometimes freeze up at the doctor's office and can't think of these things to ask.. I appreciate your answers and I will find an endocrinologist first thing Monday morning. The doctor didn't even tell me there were different kinds like papillary, or follicular. I  was kind of suprised he didn't tell me more. I have had so many problems for so long that no doctor could figure out what was wrong with me. They found the tumor by accident when they did the mri on my back...now they think all the problems I had were because of this thyroid problem. So I guess I am worried about how long this tumor was in there with this cancer. I will keep you posted when I see the endocrinologist on what he says. Again thank you!!

Did they mention what sort it was? Papillary, follicular?  I would suggest you get a copy of the biopsy and have a read. Many cancers of the thyroid are totally treatable. Often they are encapsulated and no need for any further evaluation after removal. It really does depend on the type and what they may have found at biopsy. Since you had that side totally removed it sounds like it was not invasive.
I had Hurthle cells in my large nodule and had the right side taken out. This type of cell can change into cancer but luckily mine was contained.

One more thing. I was diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer in 2004, and I am still here! There are a LOT of survivors on this forum.

Hello.

There's no way I can say this lightly. It appears that you do have thyroid
cancer. I would encourage you to find an endocrinologist very soon and
get his/her opinion. Thyroid cancer, when found early, is the easiest
form of cancer to treat. It's a scary word, but it's not nearly as bad as
other forms. Please look into finding that endocrinologist a.s.a.p.
