Yes I'm actually doing the saliva test 'today.'
The only concern I have with increasing my T3 while I seem to be in an adrenal crash - is that I read that treating thyroid issues prior to adrenals only make things worse ?
Also what about Iodine ? My labs were:
Creatinine, Random Urine - 132 (20-320 mg/dL)
There is so much controversy as to whether Iodine is recommended when Hashimotos is present.
Does anyone have a "good" doctor in So Cal area.
I'm concerned about my current thyroid/adrenal treatment with current Dr.
Thanks so much for your time~
B12 is very important, so keep working on it to raise it to the upper end of its range. Your D and ferritin are good at those levels. If it were me I would push for an increase in your T3 med to gradually raise it into the upper part of its range.
If you are concerned about adrenal issues, why not get a saliva cortisol test done, at the 4 different times of day. Sometimes it is difficult to get doctors to do the saliva tests, but you can order kits from on line labs that are fairly reasonable. That is the best test for adrenal issues. The serum cortisol test is not very reliable. Also, since salt is iodized here, there are few instances of low iodine, so not sure of any benefit from that.
On 5/15 I was taking .75 Synth and 1/2 5 mg of Cytomel, plus Dr W Adrenal rebuilder, selenium, Vit D, chelated iron, and Zinc.
She did test for ferritin and that was up from last lab report due to taking chelated Iron now in range at 89 (10-232 ng/mL).
Vit D was also up to 64 (30-100 ng/mL) , still not as high as I would like considering I am taking 5000 per day.
B12 - is definitely a problem for me as I haven't been able to tolerate it. B12 was 232. I have been reading up on MTHFR and just purchased Minus B vitamins for 2 days - then I took a very small patch of B12 yesterday and it definitely lifted me out of a serious depression even though I got very edgy after only a couple of hours and had to take 1/4 zanax just to calm down again. I will keep working on this.
The other thing Dr wants me to do is Iodine - and I haven't been able to tolerate that either. My husband swears by it - so I am going to try 'very' small dose today and see how it goes.
Today seems to be a bit better with taking Adrenal rebuilder 3 x a day - just added 1 at bedtime.
My biggest problem is insomnia (I know that I need good sleep for adrenals) loss of appetite (taking more probiotics and fermented cabbage) and now loss of weight.
Ugh - have an appointment with my Internist but I don't know if she will be able to help me much.
Before getting into a detailed discussion, what meds and dosages were you taking at the time of the 5/15 tests? Did you take your T3 med before the blood draw for tests?
Free T4 and Free T3 in both of the sets of test results are below the levels we usually recommend. Those are that Free T4 should be at the middle of the range, at minimum, and Free T3 should be in the upper third of its range, or as necessary to relieve symptoms. So your test results appear hypothyroid. Your reaction as you added T3 to your dosage, makes me wonder about your ferritin level. Hypo patients are frequently too low in the ranges for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin. D and ferritin are especially important for metabolism of thyroid hormone. Have you been tested for those?
