Thyroid problems

My thyroid ultrasound shows nodules and my dr ordered to do FNA. the thyroid was consistent with a cellular abnormality, and the pathologist report reads follicular neoplasm.
I am very worry about this, is total thyroidectomy the only solution?

My thyroid is working fine. there is not any thyroid eye signs.
Radiology notes findings:multinodular goiter with the right lobe measuring 6.5cm long x2.6cm wide and 2cm AP. and the left lobe 6.4cm long x 2cm wide x1.9cm AP. The isthmus is also thickened measuring 5mm AP. Then it continues, There are three focal lesions in each lobe of the thyroid gland with the largest one a predominantly solid comblex nodule 21x16 x 8 mm. Also many other solid nodules on both sides found.
Then I had done FNA and shows cellular abnormality and micro follicular but favoring a neoplasm. I do have Hashi's thyroiditis.
I will talk to the surgeon soon and ask if i shall remove just one side to test and if indication of cancer to do the total lobectomy. looks like we have same scituation and I probably will end up with total lobectomy.
How long ago you had yours out, and how long was recovery time.
Any change in your voice?  Thank you so much!

What are the shape, size, etc. of the nodules?  Are they vascular? Smooth and round, or irregular?  Any calcifications? All these may give you more clues.  Your chances that it is cancer are only 5-15%, with vascularity it jumps to 20%, that was enought for me to have part of it out to test. How many do you have?  Where are they on the thyroid?  I had four, smooth round, vascular nodules, one was complex, three on right and one on left, they removed the right side which was almost all nodules, I was hoping to find out if it was cancer, and hoping to preserve thyroid function, as my thyroid was working just fine.  They did find cancer, so we took out the other side.  Sometimes they cannot tell until they get it out.  My FNA result was "benign follicular clusters" follicular neoplasm...they couldn't tell me for sure until it was out.  If you have several on one side, have a lobectomy and test the tissue.  Do you have Hashi's or Graves in addition?  I had hashi's, eventually my thyroid would have stopped functioning, so I was OK taking it out with the knowledge that eventually I would be on meds anyway.  I am glad I did.  There is a lot to look at besides the lab report, so take all the things into consideration and make a decision.
