should you have some swelling after thyroidectomy surgery

This is not uncommon.  I have seem some where the throat area is swollen and black and blue, looks like dr. frankenstein did the surgery.  I have also seen some (such as mine) where I cant even tell anything was done at all.   It depends on the procedure.  The swelling should go down.  If it doesn't, you need to monitor and return to the dr.

I still have phantom pains in my thyroid area, its been about 4 months now since my procedure.  But over time it will get better.  I must say I was a 10+++  on the pain scale before the surgery.  Now I'm maybe a 1 or 2 tops.

I've never had thyroidectomy, but I would think some swelling might be normal, as with most surgeries that require an incision.  If your swelling is excessive or bothersome, you should call your doctor or go to the ER to make sure everything is okay.
