What should i do about my thyroid

When i was a baby the found a lump in my neck they thought it was a fatgland. They cut it open and saw it was my thyroid gland that was enlarged and closed it up again. It didnt bother for years until i was 16 it swole into a visible ball in my neck. I went to a specialist and they reffered me to a surgeon but he was on holiday in the time i was waiting for him it went away so we left it. Then at 18 it once again swole into a little ball so i went to a different specialist and he said its too small to operate i must go back when its the size of a golf ball.. Neither of the two times did the area hurt badly or go red around the area and ive never been on any form of medication for it. Now im almost 21 and a few days ago it started swelling again, on the second day it was bigger than its ever been before and the pain is almost unbareable, my neck is red around the area and where they cut me the first time is swollen like a bubble it feels like its more than one gland thats swollen i cant even touch the area that is swollen its way too sensitive and sore.. Im now off my parents medical aid so if i go to a doctor or anyone i have to pay cash so i dont want to go waste money that i barely have....what should i do its never been this bad and i am really stressed

You do need to see a doctor and have this checked.  They will probably want to do an ultrasound or CT scan to see what's going on with it.  They will probably, also, want to do thyroid function tests, which should include Free T3, Free T4 and TSH.  TSH is actually a pituitary hormone, but is used, primarily, to test thyroid function because it stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroid hormones.

I'm not sure where you're located, but there are programs with which you can get help for medical problems, in most countries.  Tell us where you and and we might be able to help you or check with your local health department.

I went to my gp the 31st of October  and found out its an abscess. He made a cut over it and drained it. I got augmentin for antibiotics but it continued draining for about 5days and closed up making another bubble. I went back to my gp he sent me for a sonar and when he got the results he referred me to a surgeon. The sergeon told me its a thyroglossal cyst and he explained it to me and also how the operation goes but until the absces is drained and gone he cannot do tge operationso they made a bigger cut and cleaned it out "properly" that happened 10th of November. He gave me levofloxacin as antibiotics for 5 days. I completed the course and it is still draining and hurts again. The sergeon told me to come back next year for the mri scan then they will plan the operation. My question now is.. Is it supposed to still be draining? Should i go see him again. The hole closed up a bit over the weekend so i put a small normal plaster on instead of the big wound dressing i have been wearing since the 31st and yesterday it was paining and felt stiff but i didnt pay attention to it. This morning i wanted to clean it woth some salt water and when i took the plaster of the puss started running down my neck and a lot of it...
