When you go have your regular blood thyroid tests do you only do the thyyroid tests or do you get do the full range like iron, haemoglobin etc

I'm just curious as perhaps when you are hyper or hypo does it effect other things like iron, calcium etc...

Interestingly enough, my blood pressure prior to the hypo dx was becoming elevated (140/90 was hovering there, I thought it was white coat perhaps but  now know it wasn't) and after 6 weeks on Levoxyl my check up today gave a BP reading of 106/63.
I have always exercised and have  been riding a bit more in the last few weeks, but it started to go on the downward slide before I increased my miles.
It's frightening what a thyroid problem can cause to go wrong in your body.

I'm hypo and it made my cholesterol soar to 289, has elevated my blood sugar and dropped my iron. After 6 weeks on Synthroid, my cholesterol dropped to 177. Hematocrit is still 37 (beginning of normal range is 38), but should improve. Haven't had sugar retested because it was still in normal range even though higher than it had been.

Someone compared the thyroid to a hard disk on a computer: if the hard disk (thyroid) is broken, none of the software will run.

I just read that elevated calcium is a sign of parathyroid. As always, talk to your doctor.

Good luck!

Good question. I am new to this and look forward to hearing what people have to say. I have a GP appointment tomorrow and, since I have an endo appt. the very next week, I don't even know if he should take any blood, let alone what  he should test for..
