10 weeks pregnant and hypothyroid

I am sure that this has been asked numerous times b/c of how scary the information found on the internet can be, but I need some reassurance!

I just found out at my 10.5 weeks OB appointment that my TSH levels were high. 52. So she put me on 50 mcg of synthyroid until I can get into the endo. dr. She then ran my Free T levels and found that the FT3 was normal (2.8) but the FT4 was low (.06). I am so scared that my baby may have mental impairments b/c of my bad levels. I am angry at myself for not getting the testing done sooner in pregnancy. I wish i would have know the importance of this in the early weeks so i could have been tested sooner than 10 weeks. Do you think I am too late? does anyone have any experience finding out about hypothyroid while pregnant and this late. Please help!

Thanks for the response! I am hopefully that I have as positive an outcome as you!

I continue to read articles and found on that said in studies done, if the mother did not get her levels undercontrol within 5-9 weeks gestation, then the babies were at a greater risk for delays. It is scary b/c i was 10.5. i just hope the does they gave me is enough to regulate me and that i won't still be off when they check. I see the endo tomorrow so hopefully he will have some idea!

Thanks again for your poditive feedback!

Actually.. I was in the same situation being pregnant 2x with this and because you have the issue addressed in the 10th week of pregnancy, you are going to do fine. I was hyper and giving off way too much for my body to take. 10 weeks is very early and some people do not even know they are pregnant this early in the game. Just follow your drs orders very closely and just take care of yourself throughout this pregnancy. I was actually considered high risk. I saw my regular OB, but he kept a very close eye on me andmy levels throughout my pregnancy and I did just fine. She is now 5.5 months and healthy as a horse! She is actially a little advanced inher development!! :)

Good luck to you and your soon to be little one!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I see the endo on Friday so hopefully he will reassure and say what you say about it being ok since I am at least trying to get my levels straight! I just hate waiting and seeing that there is an increased risk. Thanks again!

I think you should be ok.  From what I heard, it's not getting the thyroid issue taken care of at all that puts the baby at more risk.  I think the possible complications are lower once you start taking the medication and get back to normal levels.  Of course, I'm not a doctor but I do read A LOT of medical stuff.  LOL.  Just relax and I hope this helps you even a little bit.  Congratulations on the pregnancy also, I'm sure your baby will be beautiful!
