thyroid ultrasound

I received my thyroid ultrasound results yesterday and it shows a total of 5 nodules.  There were only 2 last year.  Descriptions are: calcified 6 mm nodule in lower right; 7 mm hyperechoic in upper right; 2 small hypoechoic nodules in lower left; vague 10mmx6mm solid hypoechoic nodule in lower left.  My doctor says he needs to discuss with some other doctors and will get back to me after ordering a few more tests in themeantime.  Of course I am a bit nervous and woould like to  know if any of these terms indicate something to worry about.  Thanks for advice.

Hi, Thanks for all of this!  I am so glad I caught you on line.  I do not see that he has that test ordered for me.  I am going through my files here because I have had a ton of blood tests but I don't see anythinglike that.  I have some chart (nomogram?) for a PTH test, thats all I see related to thethyroid.  I think my doctor was a little caught off guard when he read the test results.  He was upset that no one had called me and that I was unaware of this when I entered his office.
But thank you for your help.

The presence of TPO and TG antibodies suggests of chronic autoimmune thyroid condition [thyroiditis] when the immune system of your body attacks your thyroid.
This condition is often misdiagnosed, because the TSH level is normal until most of the thyroid tissue is destroyed.
The nodules is result of thyroid destruction; there are multiple and containing colloid and fibrous tissue. The thyroid looks like Swiss cheese on ultrasound.
You may not necessary be having this case but it would be good idea to investigate it.

Thank you for responding.  Yes, the doctor said they probably would biopsy the largest one.  The TSH was normal 1.25.  I don't see a test for T4 though. I have not been tested for elevated thyroid antibodies.  What is the test for that?

The best strategy ibn this case would be possible biopsy for the largest nodule.
Have you ever been tested for elevated thyroid antibodies?
Are your blood tests normal [TSH, T4]?
