Thanks guys. I kept seeing results on the posts and none said 3rd gen. My labs do so I was curious. I am scedule for a total Thyroidectomy on Feb 26, due to large nodules on each side of my T. The left side is causing problems with breathing, swallowing, neck and ear pain. They are both the same size at almost 3 cm but I am only having discomfort on the left side. Also, I tried 4 months of Levo. in an attempt to shrink them. It didn't work. Has anyone experienced sudden growth after meds.? I am asking because after the 4 months I stopped taking the Levo since it wasn't helping and now I can see the lump larger and having more problems than ever.
I am scared!!!! But, I must say that since reading many many post i feel better about the surgery. Esp. after reading about cold nodules which is what i have, and the FNA not being accurate. My Endo suggested at first to wait and watch but, I opted to see the sugreon who agreed that surgery is ness.
I am thankful I found you guys and i'm sure you will see more of me!!!!
The 3rd Generation TSH is the most current and sensitive test for TSH. The other methods are most likely not used anymore, at least in the U.S.
It is much better at detecting very low levels of TSH in the hyper range.
From what I can tell, it is really no different than the regular TSH testing, just done in a different way. You might try searching for it on the net.
