armour thyroid

I have tried synthroid years ago and it didn't help at all, infact I was more tired, so I took myself off and haven't been on meds for years.  I just started with a new GP and we spoke about armour thyroid meds, I have started, it has been about 1 1/2 weeks.  Don't really feel a change yet.  Wondering how other people feel about the armour and your experiences.

The word on the streets is that it has something to do with the fillers and binders. They were trying to make it more "user friendly" for the GI track. Now it seems to not be releasing properly. This is just what I've heard. Don't really know for sure as the makers aren't releasing info. I didn't want to believe it at first, however it was very obvious that something had drastically changed when we finally refilled her script. She began feeling poorly within a week of the refill. She has NEVER had joint aches in her life! Suddenly ever joint hurts, hunger returned, (gained 5 lbs in a month),tired, emotional, flu like feeling (dull aches all over).  I couldn't understand what had changed, as she had been on Armour for 6 months and had really turned the corner to feeling  good again. My daughter is 8 and was born without a thyroid gland. We made the switch to Armour from Synthroid due to her need for t3. She had been left hypo for several years by a pediatric endo. who was " numbers driven" She ignored many symptoms for far too long. Finally the symptom of heart issues (83 pvc's in 20 days) slapped us all in the face. This was my wake up call!!! Now we are on Naturethroid for one month. Anxious to see labs in a few weeks. Still think she is under dosed, but she is slowly beginning to feel better. The conversion chart for Naturethroid is too conservative. She is already on 1grain more of the Naturethroid then the Armour. I'm going to keep her here until Labs, but I am expecting that she will need another increase, atleast 1/2 grain more added to her morning dose (I dose her 3x per day with 4 hours between doses.) To prove my point about the Armour, here are her last 2 lab results, both on 120 mg of Armour and taken 6 weeks apart. The only variable that changed is that the second lab was taken after I refilled her prescription.

6/5/09 TSH: 0.142 (0.360-5.800),   FreeT3: 4.5  (6-10 yr age range 2.7-6.2),     FreeT4:1.13 (0.82-1.58)  = OLD ARMOUR

7/29/09 TSH:0.127,  FreeT3: 4.2   ****FreeT4: 0.89 = NEW ARMOUR

Sorry to ask this question but has anybody found out what ingredients are in the old Armour compared to the new one?
I dont take Armour but have read that it is no good anymore and completely different from the original Armour.
Has anybody really dug deep to find out what the change in ingredients are?
It would be really helpful to a lot of Armour users if someone could find out.
Food for thought..........

It is also a desicated thyroid hormone. My daughter was also on Armour and is no longer. We switched to Naturethroid 1 month ago and she is slowly feeling better. The old Armour was great, but the makers changed it up somehow and she began not feeling well on it when we refilled ( finally got into the new supply). Her blood work had been perfect before, but suddenly her t4 and t3 were much lower and she began having joint aches and feeling flu like. All on the same dose, just a refill! You might want to switch if you begin to feel poorly. Pay close attention to your symptoms.

Acutally the NEW Armour failed me recently. The older formula was terrific.

I stopped the med 3 mths ago - about and went to Naturethroid.

Much - much better
