Prilosec is a good product for Acid Reflux, but don't take Nexium with it, just one or the other, also there are many foods that cause AR, deep fried foods, Coffee and or Drinks that contain Caffein. So no one has even bothered to check your thyroid? Acid Reflux is a symptom we all have with thyroid issues, I would still ask one of these MD's to check it for you, The irritation to your throat is caused by the Acid-reflux, but when I had acid reflux, I did not lose my voice, it was the thyroid enlargement that put pressure on the voice box that caused it. I am not trying to talk you into having a thyroid problem, but we all have been through this with MD's miss diagnosing our thyroid conditions, and it is such an easy test to do, and takes like 5 seconds of time! At least you could rule out thyroid if anything. Good Luck FTB4

Try prilosec, you can get it over the counter, the prescribed dose is 1 tablet daily, but you can take one at breakfast and one before dinner.  Wait at least 1/2 hour to eat.  Avoid spicy foods, strawberries, orange juice.  Try this and see how you feel.  I have been on it a while, the doc told me it is one of the safest meds around, so don't worry about taking it for a long time.

Agreed, that is how I knew there was something wrong.  I am a singer and I would be hoarse after rehearsal for three hours.  I then got hoarse a lot of the time, once for 5 days.  I had nodules which turned out to be cancer (not to say you have cancer, most are benign)...the nodules can press on the recurrent laryngeal nerve that runs through the thyroid and can cause hoarseness.  Go see a good Ear, Nose, Throat (Otolaryngologist) and have him/her check your neck.

The doctor told you to stop talking? and that was his treatment, where did he get his license at a fllea market?  Try another doctor, this guy is a quack. Your thyroid could be causing it if it is enlarged, Prior to being on thyroid medication, I used to lose my voice after talking for anything over five minutes, so I guess as far as your doc says, I should shut up, LOL, I would suggest going to another MD and have him check your thyroid, it only takes them a minute, they feel your throat just below your adams apple, while you swallow water. If it is not your thyroid then he can examine your throat further or refer you to an Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Spc. Good Luck FTB4
