discontinuation of meds

My Daughter aged 12 years had a swell on her neck. She was examined by the doctor and prescribed her for T3, T4 and TSH test.

The same test were carried out and Thyroid profile reveals her TSH level elevated to 62.9 micro I.U./ml and T4 4.12 mcg/dl.

Doctor further suggested carrying out USG-neck and TMA test. The results are as under:
1) TMA test was positive with a value of 680.
2) Her USG -neck (thyroid) result: Normal as under

start”+ Rt. Lobe- Enlarged (3.8 * 1.2* 1.6 cm) size with low echogenicity. No focal lesion.
+ Lt. Lobe- Enlarged (3.7*1.3*1.6 cm) size with low echogenicity. No focal lesion.
+ Isthmus- mildly enlarged (5 mm) with low echogenicity. No focal lesion.

Generalized thyroid Enlargement with low echogenicity. (?? Inflammatory changes) “end.

After the above test, doctor prescribed her to start taking Thyronorm-50 (Synthetic hormone-thyroxine) on daily basis.

Subsequent dosage and Lab is as under:

1) after 6 weeks of medication of Thyronorm -50:

T3: 1.93 ng/ml (earlier it was 0.588 before medication), Free T4: 1.81 ng/dl and TSH: 0.164 micro I.U/ml (earlier it was 62.9 micro I.U. /ml). Dosage reduced to 50%.

2)After 6 weeks of medication of Thyronorm -25:

TSH : 0.506 micro I.U/ml. Dosage again reduced to 50%

3) Third follow-up test was done after another 6 weeks of half tablets of Thyronorm-25:

TSH : 0.969 micro I.U/ml. Dosage again reduced to 50%.

4) Fourth follow-up test was done today after another 7 weeks of only one fourth tablets of Thyronorm-25:

TSH: 2.37 micro I.U/ml.

Doctor suggested to stop taking meds as dosage was too small or negligible and advised her to see him every fortnightly as also do the follow up test after 8 weeks.

Medication stopped since last 5 weeks. We expect to do FT3 and FT4 and TSH test by another 3 weeks time from now.

Is the above was correct treatment?

Why did the Doc did a Tissue Mineral Test?
Also it was important for him to get yr daughters TSH down pretty fast as that is a dangerous level and left untreated can cause death (sorry..not meant to scare you ).
I would keep the appointments and get retested as instructed and at least he wants to see her every fortnight which is a good thing.
Most Doctors tell you to come back in 2-3 months!
It looks like Thyroiditis (inflammation) but he should also check her antibodies for hashi's.
Ask for this at the next visit.
Good to see she is on the road to wellness again.
