follicular lesion 2nd opinion?

The FNA of one of the nodules in my thyroid came back as follicular lesion.  This is a large nodule (20.4 x 15.5 x 33.3 mm) that I've known of for 7 years ( back then it was 2.7 cm and cold). I have another nodule in that same lobe plus four or five on the other side.  My endocrinologist tried to supress it with medication in 2003 but I was experiencing a lot of hyper symptoms and despite adjusting the doses the symptoms persisted and the nodule didn't "shrink". I stopped the medication in Dec. of 2003 and the next month I became pregnant :-) .  Since then my blood tests were usually normal until last fall when my ob/gyn order some more and my TSH showed a little low.  We have been unsuccessfully trying to have more children and my ob/gyn blames my thyroid ( everything else including my husband is fine ).
My endocrinologist did an ultrasound and the FNA and because the nodule has grown some and shows autonomy he would like to have it removed.  He believes that my thyroid is not the reason for our difficulty conceiving.  I trust my endocrinologist and I would like this nodule removed but at the same time I'm so scared of having surgery that I'm writing to all of you looking for some feedback.
Any suggestions, comments or advice are welcome.

It's good that you trust your Endo. However since you are trying to conceive does your endo specialize in reproduction? If not, than I would suggest you find a good Endocrinologist that specializes in reproduction for a second opinion.

You have to trust your endocrinologist I guess..

I was also stuck in the exactly the same situation as you, as to whether surgery was a really necessary or just suppress it using meds..  I am glad I took the option of surgery as the other little nodules I had beside my follicular lesion were pap cancers...
I would be more worried about those other little nodules you have.. They may be harmless nodules, but you don't really know..
In hindsight it would have been better if you had surgery 7 years ago, I hope it goes well for you..
