Hello Barb,
Sorry really late in my reply, my friend's doctor put up her meds to 75mg , couldn't believe it .
Looks like shes only going by the TSH even though she asked for TSH and FT4 test only .
She has been feeling better now as she was low on VitD an is taking supplements , she did not increase her meds thank goodness and we are looking for a new doctor once again .
She will be taking blood tests again soon .
I knew you had been in Libya at one time, but wasn't sure if you still are. Do pass on the information about doctors in U.K. to your sister-in-law... we have many members who have a hard time getting adequate treatment in U.K, unless they can afford to pay privately.
Thank you Barb , the post for doctors is for my sister in law , she is in uk . My friend and I are both in Libya and it's a bit hit and miss with the doctors here. My TSH is also suppressed . Your reply is much appreciated , thank you .
I agree that her TSH is on the high side, but there are those whose TSH doesn't conform to what we, typically, think should be. My own TSH stays at < 0.01 and everyone who sees it thinks I should be hyper, but I'm not.
I see that you posted a thread about doctors in U.K. Be aware that those doctors will, most likely, go by TSH, so you will have to point out how high the FT levels are. Even at that, the doctor may think it's fine because they are "in range".
Being tired is a symptom that applies to either/both hyper/hypo. "Puffy" eyes can too.
Thanks Barb , I obviously still have a lot to learn as I was going by her TSH and I'm properly wrong about that :)
She will be seeing the doctor soon , She had complained about her eyes being puffy and being tried which she puts down to old age . Will let you know what the doctor says .
No, your friend is not still hypo. Her previous results showed TSH way above range, FT4 at the very bottom of range and FT3 close to the bottom.... The current results show that her FT4 is at 69% of the range and her FT3 is at 86% of its range.
Rule of thumb is for FT4 to be at approximately mid range (50%); your friend is considerably higher than that. Rule of thumb for FT3 is upper half to upper third (50%+ - 67%+). Your friend's FT3 is certainly in the upper third of its range.
If anything, she might be a bit over medicated. What, if any, symptoms does she still have? Some symptoms can apply to either/both hypo and hyper.
Is your friend, only, on the 50 mcg levo or does she take additional T3?
