hhhhmmmmm...... pondering

Well, as I have said, I have my GYN on e-mail (well - his nurse actually) since we do his med-mal claims.  This is GREAT I must say.

Back in July I had the mammo / US - near biopsy scare....along with my thyroid problems.  Last week I e-mailed them about one "side" hurting and they told me to come in this week if it had not stopped or anything changed... something changed, the other "side" started to hurt too so I canceled the appt and e-mailed telling her I cancelled due to this and that I guess I would now be faced with this as a monthly thing from now on (both hurt every month this year).  I did tell her at the outset that I was worried about the "one side" hurting b/c it was the position of the cyst they did not remove at my near biopsy.  I had asked them if they thought I should have some hormone testing to see if I could benefit from any treatment.

When I got in today, I got an e-mail from her with the following:

*DOC read over your email and his 1st question was (couldn't recall) have you seen a general surgeon? His next comment was that he would just like you to come in when it is convenient for you so that you and him can just sit down and talk about your issues with the breast.  Just let me know.*

Hhhmmmmm..... what are they going to tell me now?  I did fire off an e-mail in response telling her my research on the subject was that one of the treatments for Fibrocystic Breast Disease is THYROID HORMONE and went in great detail about IF my thyroid problem is cancer, I know that thyca can met to the breasts.  Also told her that I found that the only body parts that use iodine is THYROID and BREASTS.

So - sent that e-mail back to her telling her I could come in anytime.  Do ya think I may get somewhere?  Well - just got a response so I am off to see my GYN.

Oh - and as a nice little aside to yesterday's pondering....

I felt o.k. for most of the day and by evening (abt 4:00 p.m.) I started feeling crappy... really tired, muscle aches in the legs, and my left wrist began to hurt like carpal tunnel.  I went home crawled in bed, slept for 2 hrs, got up and ate a little and then back to bed.  I also had trouble going back to sleep and felt like my heart was beating too fast.  the heart beat happens sometimes now and only when I lay down to sleep.  Anyone with ideas on that?

I know what you mean Selma - I am pushing HARD at the moment - we only have one ENDO here and I am getting results with both docs (ENT is treating me.  I have seen him 4 times total and he is I guess working all the angles).  Last appt with him he said repeat US and then a discussion of surgery so he is not messing around.  He also does his own surgeries and thyroid treatment which means I shouldn't need the endo at present.  Think at this point I might just tell them to take the thyroid out and biopsy later.  the swelling is getting constant and really is irratating.

Wow - you've been through hell and back!  I really appreciate you sharing your story with me.  That just cements my thoughts that is COULD be related.  I have always had female problems and have had 2 endometreiosis surgeries, been on the "shots" and all.  Was blessed with both my kids and the only time I have ever had pain in the breasts was a sign of pregnancy.  I swear, this has been a horrible year and I just really really want to get to the bottom of it now.  I am just tired of having difficulty with both problems.  I am really blessed with a friend-like GYN and he is trying so hard to help.  I am hoping this resolves some of the issue and that the thyroid riddle is solved soon rather than later.  I have a repeat US in October but I am hoping to have my GYN move that up too.  I even suggested they just "cut to the chase" and do both surgeries at once - that is how determined I am!  LOL - he just shook his head (in a nice - I know what you mean kind of way).

Thanks again Kat - really, its nice to know I am not alone in the problems I am having.

...I would suggest another ENDOC......I was also in my 30's when I have my "female" probs.....I am now late 40's and they are just finding all kinds of probs are connected to symptoms from when I was a child!
Drs move slow- we have to PUSH them!!!

so PUSH

I read your post and really feel for you!  I know when I share things it sometimes seems to gloom in doom...and for the age I was and for what was going on...I probably felt that way...so when I talk about it now...it truly is in hindsight...but overall I have to say that there is light at the end of the tunnel.  My tunnel was really really far away and in quite bad repair...but I made it out of it pretty good!  ;)

Ok, the whole breast thing...my thyroid journey started all because I developed some lumps in my breast...I was 21 years old (almost 22) and we were stationed in Japan and I was really freaked out and didn't want to tell anyone.  I had already had two babies but was the biggest chicken!  Finally, right after turning 22 I told my hubby who pretty much ran my hiney to the doctor...and after one appointment I was in surgery the next day and they took out what they thought was two lumps...turned out to be one huge one.  After surgery I was sent home to rest and wound up back in the ER with a large hematoma (I get them after every surgery since thyroid went bad) and had a 5 hour surgery to remove the blood, breast tissue and for them to stop the free bleeding.  Pretty much a nightmare.  My doctor couldn't wake me up so they drew blood to check for problems that could cause a patient not to wake up after being knocked out.  It turned out to be Grave's Disease.

I was given two weeks to recover (now I was missing my chest too) and then I was sent by Medivac to Tripler in Hawaii.

I spent a month in treatment...I was 106lbs at about 5'8" tall...sick as a dog...and pretty upset that I didn't have breast tissue anymore.

Long  story short...I went through a load of med changes, my body becoming deficient in all sorts of things..B12, potassium...my cells grow goofy in size and in quantity...thyroid storm...ok, pretty much hell on wheels...and then...one day I realized that I was feeling much better and able to enjoy myself...

However, I think I took the lull and little too seriously and went full speed and caused other medical problems...

I've had a hysterectomy at the age of 32 due to prolapse and also had to have a bladder sling because my uterus pushed out my bladder and I also had to have my pelvic area internally fixed because it all went south.  Horrible surgery...wonderful results.  I have also had two hip surgeries also...its crazy...I have no time left before total hip replacement and I'm 36.

I blame my thyroid for it all...its easier that way.  But to be honest, I've had medical problems since I was young...and I feel that if I have a medical problem I need to blame it on something...or maybe I should say I felt that I needed to back then...now I could care less where it came from as long as it can be fixed...I'll be happy with fixable!  :)

Hang in there...and hang tough!  Truly extremely happy with life now...

Hi Selma - thanks for your response!  Yep - I had an ENDO - who was - I must say - an absolute MORON!  He gave me Levo .25 mcg in April then did my US (heterogeneous thyroid, enlarged on right) and then in May told me I did not have a thyroid problem but I must stay on my thyroid medication.  I started with breast problems right before the thyroid swelling (monthly breast pain and swelling then the mammo and us -- BTW I am 30 - 2 kids).  Several docs later, I am on Armour (although never had an abnormal blood draw - just thyroid swelling - constantly) and take 1 grain.  I am still having breast pain and have been working with my GYN for that and an ENT for my thyroid.  If I had to guess, I have hashi (but w/out antibodies) and I think my GYN is now thinking this can be related after all.  NOW - that said, it is just "thought" on both my and the GYN's end.  It could be related - then again, it may not be. We both are just trying to weigh the odds since they both came at the same time.

Well - this is what we came up with....

I need my IUD out as I have hormone (female) problems and am not a candidate to effectively use birth control (1st kid is a pill baby) so.... going to have my tubes tied to avoid the need for further bc measures.  Doc feels that will let my female hormones straighten out and give me the relief I need on that end.

We discussed the possibility of the boob / thyroid corralation and he said that possibly, I had a fluctuation in my thy hormone that messed up my cycle and female hormones and now that my thyroid seems to be "sputtering" it caused my cycle to derail and is still off track.

My doc's wife works in the office and she said she'd have a chat with doc to get him to chat with ENT because they know I have had no relief with the thy problems and not know is really messing with me.

Don't ya love the power of a good doc.  I just hope between the two of them, we can solve me continued and progressing problems.
