How long does it take tsh to go up after stopping synthroid?

My doctor stopped my meds on Thursday and tested me on Monday. Will my tsh results be accurate if I was off meds for 3-4 days?

That's what I'm looking for...the ranges on your TT4, FT3, TT3 and TPOab.  They should be near your results on your lab report, perhaps in parentheses.  For example, the range on TT4 be something like 6.0-12.0.

They are all on synthroid and the only one our of range is the antibodies.

I posted the results above

TSH is 2.1 on .25 mcg of synthroid and 6.o without synthroid.
T4 total is 7.0
T3 free is 3.2 and
T3 total is 126.
Thyroid peroxidase antibodies is 111.

That's all there is.

What are the ranges on your TT4 and TT3?  Ranges vary lab to lab, so you have to post them with results.

Okay, TSH of 6.0 pre-meds and 2.1 after discontinuing Synthroid for 3 days makes a whole lot more sense.

Are those TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibodies...sometimes referred to as "microsomal" on a lab report) at 111?  And the range?

Ya, so he still didn't renew my synthroid script after my labs show me as 2.1 tsh 3 days off of Synthroid. And my Antibodies are 111.

25 mcg is a very low dose.  If you don't need it, your body should be able to compensate easily by producing a little less of the natural hormone.

So, your TSH was 6.0 on 25 mcg.  That indicates (of course, FT3 and FT4 should be tested to confirm) that you were hypO and needed a meds increase.  Then, your TSH went down to 2.0 three days after discontinuing???

He will test t3, t4 and antibodies too, I think. So at least we will have a read for when I was on it. But still, it is pointless to take me off of it. I think he got nervous that it was affecting me badly, maybe it's dangerous? I was at tsh 6 and on .25 mcg . My tsh went down to 2.0

He really should have left your meds alone until he'd tested FT3, FT4 and TSH.  Results of those are back in a day or two, and meds can be adjusted from there.

How much Synthroid were you on, and how long does he intend to have you discontinue?

At any rate, testing TSH only and only three days after discontinuing meds is basically a waste of time, money and good blood.  Do you know what your TSH was?  Do you have your last labs prior available?

He's not inspiring a lot of confidence in me...

I told him that I was feeling "too high" sometimes. Also, I had gone to see another doctor, for a second opinion, so maybe he was aware of that?

Synthroid is T4, and T4 is very slow acting and slow to build in your blood and to leave your system.  It takes 4-6 weeks for your body to completely rid itself of it.  So, after 3 days, your labs will in no way reflect an unmedicated state.

For what purpose were your meds discontinued?  Why did your doctor test so soon after discontinuing?  Did he test FT3 and FT4 as well?
